I dont think Greenday or blink 182 are the best but everyone is aloud to their opinions.I have heard most of the punk bands you have stated above. I do myself listen to real punk music and punk rock and they are both just as good to me. Punk is older style of music but Punk rock first really kicked off when sweet children/Greenday got together as more and more kids then became interested in that style of punk. But then people who where into real punk music shutted them out of their community of punks.

Green Day were one of the greatest bands of the 90's. I know it wasn't the best decade of music but just backing up why they are in this position. It's only recently that they've given into the mainstream audience and gone into some anarchy type mode.
Offspring. Not a big fan of them either but they're pretty good artists of our generation. Did more in the 90's I think.
Clash. Man, nobody beats the Clash in punk, not even the Ramones. London Calling is often labelled as the best punk rock album in history and I completely agree. Joe Strummer (frontman) was possibly the best punk lyricist/songwriter of all time.
Mudhoney were great yeah. I wasn't too precise with the bottom of the list sorry.

Firstly, Debbie harry (Blondie) is one of the greatest frontwoman and vocalist of all time. Only singers such as Janis Joplin and Tina Turner beat her in the vocals department. She's up there with the best R+R female stars in history too. Their most famous album, Parallel Lines went straight to #1 in 1978 and: Parallel Lines was also ranked 94th in a 2005 survey held by British television's Channel 4 to determine the 100 greatest albums of all time.Yeah, I know Ch4 is usually bull. Blondie's debut in 1976 was just as punk was in it's beginning stages so they are often considered punk due to the new wave of similar artists during this era. They were (and still are) superb performers and can sure write a great song (and a few stinkers, I know).

I'm sorry. I thought Blink 182 were just a plain, boring boyband. My mistake. Naw, I don't mind blink, they were alright guys and wrote some nice stuff. Fundamentally, Blink 182 is very similar to Mcfly. Both attract the same sort of fans, both write the same style of songs etc.

Mudhoney also helped bring it back copying the sound of the Stooges (can't remember if you had them on your list but you deffinately should've) and then Nirvana helped it break into mainstream. Sadly corporate America classed the sound as "grunge" which led to that wave. Then "punk" supposedly came back in 94' with Green Day. I'm not saying they weren't good. Any band that writes a song about masturbation like "Long View" is okay in my book... but eh, diluted punk. They helped start this "pop punk" thing.

Green Day have since taken the Clash route writing more serious songs so if you're gonna start hating them because of their current sound then you're going to have to start hating your precious Clash :P... sorry, just not a fan of them... yes a good punk band, just not my cup of tea.

And anything else after Green Day is just ********. Each new band just dillutes the sound down more until you get things like Good Charlotte or Blink 182. If you don't like the term "pop-punk"... then use this alternative... "safe-punk".

You can pretty much classify real punk into two groups... the Ramones fans, and the Sex Pistols fans. The Ramones would be more on the safe side as well.

When I said compare Green Day to Clash I meant Green Day putting away their childish antics and focusing on more serious political songs... ala the Clash.

You have to understand that this is an argument that has lasted as long as punk has existed... who is punk and who is not punk... it's the essance of the idea. Many bands have fought to get into the category only to become poser outcasts because they actually tried.

And you were classified for being goth because of the killers. It doesn't depend on surroundings... it depends on education of the subject.

True true true... although Iggy lives in a big flashy house in LA and was on a Nike ad. And the Buzz****s were on a car commercial. Sad but I can accept that they finally got some money out of their hard work over the years.

And I don't think Viscious ever actually had a place. He'd just crash at Steve Jones and Johnny Rotten's places or in cheap hotels.

No, but I can say that you still listen to mostly rubbish and continue trying to persuade you to listen to decent music that you won't find on TV or the radio :D Because you won't find punk on TV or mainstream radio stations.

Don't worry, we all have to start our music search somewhere... the first concert I ever went to was Carmen, a Christian singer. I didn't pay for it.. but still... MY FIRST CONCERT!!! Humiliating eh? You guys are still young... I still have hope that you'll be able to filter out the bad "made only for money or fame" music within the next couple of years... and if not... at least download the stuff so the **** bands won't get any money and continue on with their ruining the youth's perspective of what good music is :D
