A highly debated topic, especially im the United States, has always been whether or not there should be increased gun laws. Especially with the rise in mass shootings, etc. people debate whether or not owning a gun should even be legal.

With that being said, should every person be able to own a gun for protection? Or, should there be stricter gun laws, especially in the United States.

THIS DEBATE CLOSES 31ST JANUARY AT 11:59PM BST!

Stricter gun laws, at the very least.
Countless cases where people get ahold of guns that have no business having them... parents buy guns for their children as presents (definitely shouldn't have them), parents not locking their guns up (hello what), mentally unstable people getting ahold of guns (how even), the list goes on.
I'm not saying stricter gun laws would work perfectly because as we all know, people get around the rules all the time.

I personally don't think taking guns away from everyone that has them now would be 1. a great idea or 2. even feasible?
I don't think (or see how) most would turn over all firearms they have (this is probably just my lack of faith in the human population).
I know there are background checks for when you buy firearms legally. I also know depending on the type of firearm you're purchasing, you might receive a visit from the ATF so that's even more of a ... "background check."

I think whatever is done though needs to be done ASAP. Too many people die in firearm related incidents and it's ridiculous.

I have never felt the need to own a gun for my own protection, living in the UK there are guns around, people carry and people get shot but because they're mostly illegal to carry, they aren't on display 24/7 and where I live specifically guns are used primarily as a farming aide, not to hurt another person or as personal protection.

I don't personally feel there is a need to carry a firearm, but I accept that could well be because I live in a country where is carrying around a firearm, just because freedom allows isn't an option. I believe there is a need to have much stricter sanctions on inproper use and a much more indepth background check to ensure people that are sold guns have sound mind, experience and training to handle something so deadly.

I'm pretty much in support of people owning guns, yes. The right to protect myself, family and property isn't something a government can gift to me. It's mine.
