...okay, not limited to films/TV stuffs, but pop culture in general.

Kids, I think, view the world mainly through assumptions and imaginative associations other than what they are, without the reasoning to differ special effects and whatever from the real stuff, ultimately causing the producers of content aimed for children, for example, to do things that prove to scare the hell out of us even though it wasn't (supposedly) planned to do so. It can be anything, really: from the eventual uncanny close-ups that those post-modern cartoons exploited quite a bit (talk about Spongebob Squarepants) to anything classic Teletubbies. The fact that it's more common than I usually thought was sort of comforting!

...even though, as fully grown-ups, they usually come across as something extremely innocuous and stupid!

Did you have any experiences related to this that you think that makes sense to share with us? lol. I think that the best thing about it is that most of these things are also menacing by the collective consciousness, then I wouldn't be very surprised if someone yelled "omg me too" out of your response.

Maybe I have one or two things to talk about it, but I think it gets more fun if I find the respective material on yb!

Yep, what a thread :P

I'm sure I have a lot but this is the first thing that popped up.
The creature from the NeverEnding Story, that's what terrified me.

I never knew if it was a dog or a dragon, so that probably didn't help matters.

I actually love this thread so much. Scary movies, not too much scares me, since I basically grew up watching scary movies. But, when I was a lot younger, a lot of the characters from Courage the Cowardly Dog gave me the creeps.

OK my friends it was very hard but I found my own cache of nightmare fuels---

There used to be this local dominical TV show of sorts (a massive hit in my lands) whose celebrity guests would engage in wackiest competitions, and despite how fun they were to watch mostly, ONE GAME IN PARTICULAR proved to be all the kids' most feared thing; when you're too young to make sense out of special effects, the creepy soundtrack + slow face morphing combo drives you bananas a lot.... I'd cover my ears and unplug the TV all the times my parents wanted to watched it

Courage the cowardly Dog.. I would still watch it every time it would come on.

I've watched nearly all its episodes back when it was originally aired on Cartoon Network, and thought that I'd forgotten about all of it until, thanks to your post, I google-images searched it and everything returned to my mind. Basically the specific characters and scenes, but not much about what the episodes were of!! I don't think it particularly traumatized me in comparison to other media because it's already self-advertised as a scary series, so one gets in half-prepared for what's to come :P

For me, the goose bumps tv show used to scare me as a kid. Or Are you afraid of the Dark.

Even though looking back they were just creepy.. I still had nightmares growing up from them.
