Rishi vs Liz - the race to become Britain's next Prime Minister

Rishi Sunak MP and Liz Truss MP are the finalists in the Conservative Party leadership election and one of them will be appointed as PM by the Queen in September

So the contest has been narrowed down to Rishi Sunak MP and Liz Truss MP.

Members of the Conservative and Unionist Party will vote over July and August to determine who will become next leader of the party, and who will ultimately be appointed as the new Prime Minister to replace Boris Johnson by the Queen. The election result is expected to be announced on the 5th September 2022, and the incumbent PM will go to the palace to resign the following day.

So who is your preferred candidate to take over as PM? Do you think there should be a General Election soon? Should Boris have stayed?

Polling suggests Liz Truss MP has it in the bag.

My ballot paper arrives next week and I will be placing my tick next to her and posting it.

Liz Truss MP polling very well in the Red Wall seats.

Essential that the Tories hold onto these at the next GE as without them they lose their majority.

Lizz Truss is a clueless clown.

She did well in her International Trade minister role (2019-2021), Britain has the 2nd highest amount of FTAs in the world because of her.

Indeed, which is why most of the FTAs she rolled over were either the same as the EU ones, but with modifications that suited Britain better. Take the UK-NZ FTA compared to the EU-NZ FTA. We've agreed to abolish quotas and tariffs at a much faster rate on NZ imports below making it far superior to the FTA that the EU negotiated with the kiwis. It means cheaper food prices on NZ imports for British consumers much more quickly.

The latest poll. What's interesting to note is the very similar margin that Truss is leading Sunak by is the same margin that Boris led Hunt by back in 2019 - the final results could almost mirror that result. There have also been a few shameless defections from the Sunak camp over to the Truss camp by some MPs and Lords.

The actual results are announced on the 5th September and the new PM will be invited to take office by HM The Queen on the 6th September. She's currently at Balmoral Castle but is expected to come back early for this, either to Windsor Castle or the more traditional Buckingham Palace for the kissing of hands (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kissing_hands).
