"No!" says Australia in landslide result

A referendum to establish a racial consultation of Australian Aboriginals to Parliament is heavily defeated as the damaged Prime Minister Anthony Albanese backs away from a second referendum on replacing the Australian monarchy with a republic

The Indigenous Voice to Parliament has been rejected by the Australian people at the referendum.

New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland and Tasmania have all voted No.

65 per cent of the votes which have been counted in Queensland are a No.

It is a resounding victory for the No campaign, with a No vote likely the outcome in every state.

Victoria is trending toward a No result, but it is far closer at 52 per cent against the proposal.

The bruising campaign has cost the government - and Australian people - $365million.

The defeat has effectively also ended any chance of a second referendum on abolishing the monarchy and replacing it with a republic, after damaged PM Anthony Albanese essentially ruled one out in the future.

A wonderful victory not just for rejecting racial and identity politics, but also for securing the Australian monarchy.

The scenes on Twitter are hiliarious, meltdowns like we saw after the 2014 Scottish/2016 EU referendum. Screeches of racism.

All the votes are yet to come in but will post them when we have a clear picture. Well done our Aussie cousins :praise:

The final result. An absolute landslide.

It failed across all Australian states and only passed in the capital Canberra, which is home of the political class.

60.25% to 39.75%

In terms of the monarchy, we can pretty much rule out a referendum now during the reign of King Charles III. And after that, his more popular son Prince William will become King William V of Australia. Can't see an Australian republic happening really in our lifetimes.

Australia's Brexit moment the fallout from the referendum is being described as.

Be it Britain, Australia, America or elsewhere in the Anglosphere - the contempt our political class have for ordinary commoners is glaring.
