I am surprised it took this long for us to dip into recession given inflation.
Remember, the reason for inflation is because of the ridiculous lockdowns during the pandemic when the Bank of England printed money like there was no tomorrow, and the additional tax hikes that followed to pay for everyone to be sat on their arses at home. The likes of me were shouted down and silenced by lockdown zealots - including on this forum - but there you have it.
Added to that, we're always informed by our political class that immigration is great for the economy, and we've just had record immigration (despite continuously voting against it) and the economy is flatlining.
It's almost like closing an economy for a period of two years and flooding the country with low income workers isn't a successful economic strategy?
