Archbishop Welby resigns as the Archbishop of Canterbury

The King has accepted the resignation of Justin Welby, the Primate of the worldwide Anglican Church since 2013

For me, Archbishop Welby was far too liberal. I much preferred Lord Carey who was in post in the 1990s.

That said, he did a good job at state events and the Coronation in 2023. It does mark the passing of an era though, as Welby was one of the few institutional figures left from the 2010s - in the last couple of years we've now had a new monarch, a new prime minister and now a new Archbishop of Canterbury.

A new Archbishop will be appointed by The King within around two months, and enthroned on St Augustine's Chair.
