Pretty big news. He's the only western Head of Government still around from that time.

The Liberal Party will now elect a successor and the Governor-General of Canada, on behalf of the King of Canada, will appoint his successor as Prime Minister. The next Canadian General Election must take place before October 2025, so the new Prime Minister might decide to go to the polls earlier to secure a better chance of saving more Liberal Party seats.

It looks like Mark Carney - former Governor of the Bank of England and Bank of Canada - is tipped for the Liberal Leadership.

Highly unlikely he'll be in the job for long though, an election is due October at the latest.

I completely agree.

I did like him bringing in a unique Crown for the Canadian Monarchy though.
