A western Manitoba school division has reinstated "God Save the King" in its morning announcements, adding the royal anthem alongside "O Canada" and land acknowledgments.

The Mountain View School Division, which oversees schools in Dauphin and surrounding areas, made the decision to include the anthem in daily proceedings.

The move marks a return to traditional practices that had largely fallen out of use across Manitoba schools.

Ottawa only made "O Canada" the country's official national anthem in 1980, having been adopted as the de facto song in 1939.

"God Save The King", while still regarded as Canada's royal anthem, is sung in both English and French.

Just what I like to see. Headmistress Katharine Birbalsingh has done similar in her London state school.

You know, a few years ago the Australians started this in the 1990s under PM John Howard (who also saved the Australian monarchy) when it mandated that all schools in Australia who had government funding would have to fly the Australian flag by law. Since then, the flag has rocketed in popularity and changing the flag isn't even an issue that is discussed anymore. Being proactive in these things works. Schools should be instilling respect and patriotism in students, who then go on to be citizens who love and value their country - unlike the tripe we've faced in recent years where kids are told that [insert western nation] is evil and the third world is just marvellous. Teach children to appreciate and love their country and city rather than telling them there's 72 genders.

I'd like to see similar introduced in Britain with every school flying the Union Jack alongside the home nation flag (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland) and God Save the King played in assembly.

Good on the Canadians anyway. The King and Queen are expected to be visiting in 2026.
