France to ban smoking outdoors at most places, including beaches, parks, and near schools

There's that old saying that the more incompetent a government and the more incapable a state, the more it will seek to legislate on almost every small aspect of life. Certainly true for Britain, and certainly true for France - both are seemingly not able to or not willing to carry out basic functions of the state (public safety, border controls, fighting crime etc) so they seek to go after the law abidiing majority who're trying to enjoy themselves with the little money they're left with after taxation.
I also remember over a decade ago when I railed against the smoking ban on this forum saying it should be down to individual pubs and restaurants in a free society, I warned of a slippery slope and the usual "ohhh don't deploy the slippery slope argument, that'll never happen" was the response. Well here we are yet again.
For the record, I don't smoke - but I do think adults should be treated as adults.
