Reform UK says it is now the largest political party in Britain and has overtaken Labour, which has reportedly seen its membership fall below 250,000.
Nigel Farage’s party says it has more than 270,000 members on the live tracker displayed on its website.
Farage said: “As we have suspected for some time, Reform has overtaken Labour to become the largest political party in British politics – a huge milestone on our journey to win the next election. The age of two-party politics is dead.”
Meanwhile, the Times reported that, according to internal figures, the Labour party’s paid-up membership had fallen below 250,000.
The Greens have seen their membership swell from about 70,000 to more than 180,000 since the party’s new leader, Zack Polanski, was elected in September.
This suggests the Greens have overtaken the Conservatives, whose membership numbers have dwindled in recent years and now stand at about 123,000.
Of course, membership figures don't guarantee victory otherwise Jeremy Corbyn would have won a landslide on that metric... but the polling and multiple council-by election victories are certainly pointing in one direction. Ahead in the polls by quite some margin, and under a FPTP system and the seats come tumbling your way as we've already seen. That was always the barrier to a new party and they've now overcome that.
To see the Conservatives now fourth in terms of membership is brutal..... and hiliarious. We're so close to finishing them off.
