Gorton and Denton by-election

A Labour MP for the Manchester constituency has stepped down, triggering a by-election

So essentially to give you the rundown; Andy Burnham (currently Mayor of Manchester) wants to run in the constituency to return as an MP, to then challenge Sir Keir Starmer for the leadership and become Prime Minister. Burnham has to resign as Mayor before he can stand, and there is a real Reform challenge in this seat meaning if Burnham loses, he will be out of office completely.

For those reasons, it's going to be hotly contested - and that's if the Labour leadership don't veto Burnham standing. There's rumours that the candidates could include high profile people, including Zia Yusuf (Reform), Andy Burnham (Labour), Zack Polanski (Greens) and George Galloway (Workers Party).

My guess is if Polanski and Galloway stand, Reform are odds on to take the seat as it will split the Labour vote.

Burnham blocked by Labour's NEC from standing.

Now easier for Reform to take.

Take internal party data/polling with a pinch of salt, but here's what Reform and the Greens are currently reporting back.

The by-election takes place on Thursday 26th February.
