Latest update, i've added a small dockyard area and a small park type thingy (i'll probably do a couple of other parks around the scene too), i'm trying not to let the background stuff take over the main focus of the scene though which is proving a bit tricky to avoid, once i get an idea for something i tend to really get into it and i've already made a couple of buildings that had to be scrapped because they would take peoples attention away from the main image, dunno how i'll play that though, perhaps once the image is done i can replace the standard city blocks with more interesting stuff over time.

I've also made a lot of progress with the main centrepiece, i'm still not showing that yet though but it does involve 2 large vidscreens and a lot of animation. ;)

Aww, you're so funny, some people just are :). It look's Uber l33t supa haxz0rz!! Don't really know what to say about to, 'constructive criticism' wise, it's all basically perfect =]! I don't know if you haven't planned too, but you should make like a mini train station or underground one or something, and another park maybe? A church? Just something to spice up the city and make it look less repetitive, obviously not too busy though, otherwise it would take the viewers attention away from the main feature like you said :).

We're thinking on the same wavelength there, i've been arguing with myself about adding a small overground railway or something, either that or a canal type thing winding through the middle of it all, that might look cool with it going under road bridges etc (see i'm starting with the overboard ideas again :p ), i'm definately adding a church or two, i've got another 2 park areas planned, the other end of the dock area is being turned into a beach and there's a small possibility of a "city airport" somewhere in there.

No idea when i'm actually going to be able to impliment any of those ideas but i'm trying to do at least a block per night.

I'm also toying with the idea of putting my template .psd on my site for download so others can make their own mini cities, so far it has several different road sections (junctions etc), trees and buldings, whenever i deviate a bit and make a slightly different building from the others i add it to the template so there should be a decent collection once i'm done. :)

It all sounds pretty cool, and a block per night is a nice amount to go without rushing it or getting bored. I was going to assume that you will be adding the Habbo hotels to the peice but wouldn't it look out of place them being bright orange? Plus, adding an airport seems a bit large scaled, it would need to take up half a block or something, it may seem like a whole new attraction x[!

Yeh, just wondering if these were going to be put on your page of alts on the main Hx site?

Thanks

Yes, the hotels are already in place in the scene but i'm avoiding displaying them so to prevent anyone ripping it off or something, they actually don't look too bad compared to the fill-in buildings and it's always been my intention to make them stand out more because of what the image will eventually be used for, once i get a few more blocks filled i'll post a preview section of the image with a hotel so you'll see what i mean. :)

I'm also a bit undecided about the airport idea, i could get away with making it a very small scale inner-city light aircraft type deal and it wouldn't take up too much space but my main concern would be making a passable looking plane within a 6 pixel limit, i could adapt the helicopter used on one of the mini hotels but i'll have a play around with something and see if it's worth doing before getting into it too much.. :s

@ -50: I won't be allowing any site to display the main image even when it's complete, the reason being it's going to be part of a website itself and i'd rather people came to see that particular work on my own site instead of elsewhere, This is part of the reason why i'm not showing everything in place on the scene at once, especially the centerpiece building, although if you look carefully you'll see a little precaution i've taken to make sure someone doesn't "borrow" the background image even when it is finished and on display. ;)
The mini hotels on their own i'm happy to give permission (if asked) to be displayed on other sites as with most of my work. :)

So, small update, no image, just thought i'd mention that i tried the airport and it didn't look right at all so that's that idea out of the window, i'll be having a go at the railway line next i reckon. ;)

Brilliant as always. Only thing I think you need is more detail on grass/water.

Yeah, that'll probably be added at some point, the current block and water colours are only temporary but i did start messing about with some texturing, only problem being at that scale it's difficult to get it looking right without looking too large for the rest of the scene.
Now If we all had monitors that could display sub pixels or something, i could do so much more with 0.25 px at that scale.... :p

People of my generation are not as "old" as the 30+ year olds were when i was in my teens, i was brought up in one of the coolest decades and was involved in all kinds of new stuff that you guys take for granted now, i did skateboarding the first time round, and bmx vert ramps etc (i'm still riding now exept i've upgraded to downhill mountainbiking), i'm an ex-graffiti artist which is something that led me to becoming a graphic designer and more importantly, i was one of the lucky ones to be around when the newest gadget started taking over the world, the home computer. i was one of the first kids in my entire school to have a computer at home plus i was fortunate enough to have a mum who was a computer programmer which gave me a pretty decent head start, so why should i give all that up just because i'm 30+, i mean that would be like telling Matt Hoffman to give up bmx and he's older than me!

I get a lot of people asking me why someone my age uses Habbo, it's simple really, as a qualified multimedia producer and artist i find sites like Habbohotel to be amazing concepts, especially as i played games that were based on the pixels iso style as a kid and not having the internet back then meant there was no real interactivity with other people, so naturally when i came across the very basic Mobiles Disco in 2001 i was blown away, imagine my reaction when i was shown Habbohotel shortly afterwards! Admittedly i don't normally get so hooked on sites like that but 5 years down the line and i'm actually involved in the site itself in my role as a Supervisor Hobba, alongside many other hobbas and staff, some of whom will be around my age as well.

As for hanging out in some of the forums, the 3 habbo related forums i use are just a few of the other 20+ other non-related forums i'm subscribed to, i like to stick around these places so i can keep up with goings on, show off some artwork and give any advice on topics that i might be able to share my knowledge in, thats what the net is all about after all. :)
I understand the whole paranoia surrounding adults on the internet, but we're not all weirdo's or boring pipe and slipper types....honest. :p

I think its great to have someone like you around.. regardless of age you have much to offer to this community. From what I've seen on your website you are extremely talented.
