I walked down the school corridor with my friends, Michelle and Phoebe. I noticed a sign pinned up onto the notice board and stopped the read it.
"Our school stars in your eyes auditions are at lunch today," I told Michelle and Phoebe, "Shall we enter?" Michelle gave me a look as if to say 'You're mad aren't you?'.
"Ermm... for a start, i can't sing and another thing, i've got better things to do," Michelle commented.
"You can sing and what better things have you got to do?" I told her.
"Stuff," she replied and walked off. Phoebe looked at me then at the notice.
"I'll do it with you," Phoebe told me, "And we'll convince Miss Moody to as well." I smiled and hugged Phoebe. She was my best friend and she always helped me or did something for me, even if she didn't want to.
"Thankyou!" i exclaimed and linked arms with her. We walked up to the stairs and entered our form room where alot of chat was going on. Michelle was talking to Rihanna and Jasmine who were in all of our classes. Me and Phoebe joined them and Michelle gave her weird looks. I turned away from her and faced Rihanna and Jasmine.
"Are you two auditioning for stars in your eyes?" i asked them. They shook their heads.
"Nah, we've got netball practice at lunch," Jasmine explained, "And besides, i hate singing. It gives me a soare throat."
"Girls! Sit down please!" our form teacher, Mrs Gilbert shouted over to us. I headed towards my usual seat but a boy quickly grabbed the chair and sat down on it before i could do anything.
"Jason!" i shouted, "I always sit there so move!" He gave me a 'OOh! i'm really scared' look and then got his planner out of his bag. It was clear he wasn't going to move without a fight.
"You gonna move Jase?" Michelle asked.
"If i was going to move i would have done it already. Sorry girls, this seat's taken," Jason replied evily. Michelle suddenly slapped him across the fight and everyone turned to face her and Jason.
"You gonna move now?" Michelle asked, ignoring Mrs Gilbert's angry yet surprised expression. Jason put his hand over his cheek and shook his head.
"Nope, but you've got a good slap... for a girl," he told her. Michelle's eyes filled with fire and she suddenly grabbed the chair and shook him off it. He fell sideways and hit the floor with a thud.
"There you go Lexi," Michelle told me and dusted her hands off. I slowly sat down and then looked down at Jason who's face had turned as bright as a cherry.
"Michelle! Get out now! I'll speak to you about your behavior later!" Mrs Gilbert shouted.
"But miss... He stole Lexi's chair!" Michelle aruged. Mrs Gilbert pointed to the door and Michelle stomped out in a strop. Jason got up and dusted himself off. He then went over to his seat with the lads and started to say that he was only joking and that he had fell off the chair on purpose. Michelle was glaring at him as she peered around the door. Jason had a smug look on his face and the other lads were laughing about Michelle. It made me angry when people were talking about my friend. Especially when it was Jason. He loved winding everyone up and annoying them but it made me feel totally angry. Mrs Gilbert started to read out the register. I was thinking up a cunning way to get back at Jason but nothing came to mind. Something bounced off my head. It was a rubber. I looked over at Jason and gave him the evils (evil eyes) then went back to thinking of a plan. Suddenly it hit me. And so did another piece of rubber  The bell rang for first period. I stood up and pulled my coat on then picked up my bag.
"Go to your next lessons while i have a word with Michelle," Mrs Gilbert said, then looked at me, "Lexi, can you tell your next teacher why Michelle will be late, please?" I nodded and started to walk out then i turned to face Jason.
"Oi, what do you think you're doing, getting Michelle into trouble?" I asked.
"What's it to do with you shorty?" asked Jason.
"How is she short?" Jasmine asked, coming to my side. Mrs Gilbert had just walked out of the room to talk to Michelle.
"Cause she is. Now move out of my way," Jason replied, pushing past us, "Oh, and by the way, tell Michelle that if she wants a fight, to meet me at the top of the field at break." I laughed and he gave me a questioning look. I tucked my hair behind my ear and moved my bag further onto my shoulder.
"Fine and i'll bring my sister with me too shall i?" I asked.
"Sure, bring your sister. If she's anything like you, i'll knock her down with my little finger," Jason told me. I looked at him. He obviously didn't know who my sister was.
"Oh and by the way," I said as Jason was almost out of the room, "My sister's Kerry Thomas in year ten. See ya!" I then walked out, just as a look of horror formed on his face. My sister was the hardest girl in the school and Jason had once got involved in a fight with her and he had ended up with a black eye and bruises all over his hands and legs. Ok... so sometimes i thought Kerry went a little too far; but hey! At least i had the hardest girl in school on my side all the time. I linked arms with Jasmine and we walked to our next class.
At break time, i found my sister and together, me, michelle and Kerry walked over to the top of the field where Jason and his mates were playing football. Kerry added a thick layer of eyeliner to make her look a touch more scarier.
"Hey boys, which one of you wanted the fight with Michelle?" Kerry asked. All of the boys stepped aside and pointed to Jason who had turned bright red and was shaking a little.
"Lexi... Are you telling me you can't beat up this little fly?" Kerry asked, turning to me.
"Of course i could, i just wanted to see the terrified look on his face," I told her. In a way, i didn't want my sister to do anything to him. Afterall, he hadn't done anything too bad, had he? But i wanted revenge for him getting Michelle told off.
"Are you scared of me?" Kerry asked Jason. Jason nodded his head quickly. All of his mates laughed at him.
"Not so big and scary when your faced with the hardest girl in the school are you?" she said, "Lexi, Michelle, he won't bother you again. If he does, just tell me." At that Kerry walked off down the field. I watched her go, her pure blonde hair twirling arond in the cool morning breeze.
"Sorry girls," Jason said, his face still as bright as a cherry. I walked off down the field with Michelle and found Phoebe who had been looking for us. Suddenly, everyone started to run towards a certain point and whenever that happened, there was surely a fight going on. We joined in the run and eventually, realised that it was just a fake fight.
"That's so childish," Michelle said.
"Exactly," Phoebe said and leaned against a fence, "Ouch! I think my hair's stuck to this fence or something!" Her hair had gotten tangled in a tall plant and then had got wrapped around the fence too. I tried to untangle it but it was too bad to sort out.
"Your gonna have to cut your hair," said Michelle. Phoebe screamed.
"Noooo! I'm not cutting my hair! I only just got it layered!" she exclaimed.
"Don't worry Phe, we'll get it untangled soon," I reasssured her. Michelle gave me a 'how are we gonna sort this one out?' look and i shrugged. I grabbed hold of the plant with two hands and snapped it in half so Phoebe's hair was no longer tangeld around it. Her hair then unwound itself from the fence and she was free.
"Thank god," Phoebe said and got her brush out of her bag. She started to brush her hair to get all the knots out. We all started to walk back up the field because the bell had just rang.
At the end of the day, we all headed out of the school gates. Jason was infront of us. We all began to cross a busy road.
"Again, i'm sorry about this morning," Jason said not looking where he was going.
"Don't worry Ja..." I started but then i found myself flying through the air. As my head was forced to turn. I saw Jason land on the ground, flat on his back and i fell soon after. Everything suddenly went blank.

"She'll be ok, when she wakes up remember to be nice to her," i heard voices saying. I tried to open my eyes but it was as if they were glued shut. When i tried to open my mouth, it was like i somehow couldn't make it move.
"Thankyou doctor," i heard another voice say and instantly realised that it was my mum. Suddenly, my mouth managed to move a littled and i managed to mutter 'mum'.
"Lexi!" my mum exclaimed. My eyes suddenly flew open and bright lights filled my eyes. I tried to lean forwards but i felt myself in total pain.
"What happened?" i croaked.
"Phoebe said that you, Michelle and Jason were crossing a road and you were both talking to Jason and two cars came flying down the road from both sides and knocked you down. Apperently you flipped into the air and had a rough landing," Mum exclaimed. My mouth dropped open.
"So basically, you, Michelle and that fool Jason are all in hospital," Kerry said. I hadn't noticed that she was there before. For the first time in my life, Kerry actually looked properly upset.
"I'm sorry," i said.
"What for? These things happen sometimes. There is no need to say sorry!" my mum said. I looked over at the beds either side of me but they were empty.
"Where's Michelle?" i asked. My mum exchanged a glance with Kerry which set me into totally freak mode.
"Mum? Kerry? Where is she?" I repeated.
"Sweetie, Michelle has been transferred to a special hospital. She hasn't woken up yet and it looks like... well... her injuries are very deep and bad," Mum exclaimed. Before i could say or think anything, a pain struck my head and spread through my body.
"AHH!" I cried.
"The doctor said you'll get sharp pains alot for a while," Mum explained. I turned over in my bed. I realised for the first time that i was wearing a horrible hospital gown. Couldn't patients sleep in style? A nurse walked into the room, followed by someone else. The nurse sat me upright and then the other woman stepped forward.
"Lexi, i know this will come to a bit of a shock to you but we thought that you should be the first to know. We have just got a call from the hospital that Michelle has been taken to. I'm really sorry, but Michelle has passed away," she told me. I suddenly screamed and tears started to pour down my face.
"Please! No!" i exclaimed.
"I'm sorry," the woman said. Kerry and my mum sat on the edge of my bed and tried to comfort me but it was no use. One of my best friends had just died. Only hours ago we had been just chatting and so on. How could she be dead?
"But she was only knocked down," I said, trying to tell myself that it wasn't happening.
"The car hit her from a bad angle," she told me. I cried into my pillow and the woman and the nurse left. This was the worst day of my life.

* * *
Two weeks later, i walked into the church on crutches for Michelle's funeral. Jason hadn't been injured as much as me and Michelle. It should have been me who died. Not Michelle. That's what i kept telling myself. That it was my fault. Deep down i knew it wasn't my fault but i couldn't help thinking that it was. The vicor started to talk and i started to cry. It was then my turn to read out my speech. I stood up shakily on my crutches and made my way to the front. I unfolded my speech and just stared at it for a moment.
"Michelle was one of my best friends. She was great to talk to, very chatty and just a great friend. Now... now she isn't here any more... it's like part of me isn't there anymore. I don't know what to do with myself..." i said and then started to cry. People either clapped or cryed into their tissues. Phoebe helped me down off the bit i was standing on then stood to give her speech.
"Michelle was a really good friend. Now, i don't want anyone to blame Lexi, Jason or anyone for what happened. Cause i saw what happened. It wasn't any of their faults. But when they were knocked down and people were rushing over to them i heard Lexi muttering 'help michelle first. Please. Just help her before me'. Lexi was hurt really badly but she still put her friends before her. Michelle was lucky to have such a friend like her," Phoebe said. People suddenly started clapping and Michelle's teary eyed parents turned around and smiled at me.
After the funeral, i felt like a little of my sadness was lifted. But i didn't know what to do any more... If you've ever loved one you'd know how it felt...

10 years later, Lexi was crossing a calm road and was knocked over. When people went to help her. She was gone... Who knows where she went? Who knows how she got there... But she wasn't found or seen ever again...
