Alone

A tall, Iron Gate is where she stood. Standing with her old ragged rucksack, hanging over shoulder, shaking. Her name was Alysha or Aly for short. The appearance of the girl seemed that she was a happy-go-lucky girl, but looks can be deceiving. Long black hair tied up in a neat high ponytail, dull blue blazer which was two sizes too big, hiding her dusty peach wrinkled blouse. Navy blue skirt about knee high covered her legs with black scuffed school shoes on her feet.

It was the day everyone dreaded, first day back at school. The grumbles and moans of being back in the same old classrooms, listening to teachers go on and on rather than sitting listening to their music or doing what teenagers would rather do. Aly however, hated it for another reason, the bullies. With Aly being a fifteen year old just starting year 11 at Elwood Academy in Hampshire, she and everyone else knew this would be an important year. The previous two years she was constantly picked on, played truant on some days not wanting to face the world. Aly had no friends at school, no family, no one.

The first day passed by like a breeze until walking home. A group of pupils started to follow her, calling her names, pushing and pulling at Aly. She couldn’t stand it, wanting to break free from the torment. Once she spotted an escape path, without a thought she ran. Aly ran to the same old house, down the same old path tears flowing down her cheeks. It was a usual routine this, going in emptying the dishwasher and tidying up and then getting changed out of her bad memories; the school uniform. Aly crawled up the stairs ever so slowly entering her peaceful sanctuary, her bedroom. Closing the door behind her ever so quietly, she slumped to the ground. Sobbing her heart out, she questioned herself, “Why? Why me? Why Alysha Green?” Aly screamed between sobs, she didn’t care how loud she was, nobody was home. Her life had been fine at times, she had friends in the past but unfortunately friends can always turn into enemies. Her friends ignored her, laughed as she got pushed and slapped around, not even trying to stop it. Aly was alone.

After crying for a while (which was an annual event she did) she began her homework. Getting lost in thought she heard the front door slam shut. “Dad,” Aly said in her mind. True enough it was Aly’s father, Bill arriving home from work as usual. Alice, her mother didn’t normally return home until ten at night. Aly’s relationship with her family was never good. Family communication was zilch, never speaking to each other. Bill and Alice only ever spoke about work so sadly Aly never felt a part of the family. She normally spent all her time cooped up in her room not wishing to talk to anyone; never going out, never doing what teenagers normally did.
Bullying has taken a deep and painful toll on Aly. Feeling down and depressed all the time, wearing a smile to cover up her sadness like a mask she often wondered why she was continuing to live her life like this. She did have friends however, a long time she joined a life saver; a message board for people being bullied. People accepted her for who she was so she developed friendships quickly. One person in particular she spoke to a lot was a boy named Jake. That’s all she knew about was his name but that’s all she wanted to know, they often shared stories and tales about what happened at their day at school, offering advice on how to cope with it all. Aly for once in her life felt she was being cared for, being one of the crowd.

Time passed on, Aly feeling worse and more depressed but even after everything that was happening, she never told no one. Aly didn’t have enough confidence on telling a teacher or a parent about her troubles, in fact she did tell her mother one day but Alice ignored her. Striding on Aly concentrated on school, getting top grades and aiming to pass the exams. You could never tell that Aly was such a bright girl. Top set for every class, top marks for nearly everything. She had potential for a great life, if it weren’t for the bullies.

The exams came and gone, feeling proud of herself, Aly walked home in a stride wearing a smile. Everything was going well until she felt her stomach drop. Her heart beating faster every minute, she slowly turned around. There stood in front of her was her worst nightmare, the bullies who torment her life. The tall boy who looked about sixteen said in a sly tone, “Think you can get away from us, don’t you?” Aly shook her head, bottom lip trembling thinking to herself, “Be strong, be confident!”

Before Aly could do anything, a tall fair teenage girl aged about sixteen blurted out with a smirk, “Aww, little Aly not wanting to play?” By this time, Aly was surrounded, no where to run, no where to hide. With the third bully behind her who was the identical twin of the boy bully, Aly thought she would be dead. All three of them smirked as they began to take a grip on her. Thoughts were trembling through her mind and tears running down her face. Aly did not care anymore; she couldn’t stand it anymore, giving up on life, letting the bullies see that she was weak. These thoughts ran through her troubled mind as the bullies punched and slapped her about.

Praying deep down inside with her eyes tightly closed she felt the people holding her down let go. Fluttering her eyes open so suddenly to find a boy standing in front of her, roughly looking around sixteen with short black hair. “You alright?” he asked, offering a helping hand. Still shaking, Aly gladly took the offer. Once standing she wiped the dirt from her skirt and felt her throbbing cheeks. All of a sudden she felt a warm hand wiping her head with a tissue, “Here,” said the boy with a concerned look on his face.” “What’s your name?” Aly slightly smirking and feeling shy replied, “Aly.”

Looking down at her, he smiled, “I’m Jake.” Aly all of a sudden looked alarmed. “Are you a user of a message board?” she hesitantly asked. Jake, looking confused answered, “Yes why?” After the last word left his mouth he realised, this was his greatest friend. Alysha looking gob smacked jumped into Jake’s arms and hugged him tight. Jake blushing slightly, politely hugged back as she whispered in his ear, “Thank you.”

Years went on, Aly and Jake got all the qualifications they hoped for. A mission to be a meteorologist was Jake’s mission whereas Aly was to be a social worker in her eyes. Throughout the years, the two friends relationship grew until one day, Jake surprised Aly on her birthday asking for her hand in marriage. Once the marriage passed and watching their little girl Samantha growing up, Aly pauses to look back on life. The mistakes she made, the problems she resolved and the friends she made. She was Alysha, the girl who was alone but is no more. ♥

Lovely Story, Glad That she Sorted Her Life Out In The End. :) I Guess there is a kind of Moral in the story, That everyone will shine one day, no matter what they have gone through, and it can only make her stronger?
