It has been reported that deadly 'false black widow' and 'wasp' spiders have made their way into the UK due to bannana imports from areas such as the Canaries.
The false black widow spider is highly aggresive, and a quote from the report which I heard about this evaluates this:
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With most spiders, you have to work hard to get them to bite you - pick them up, carry them around or pull their legs off. But the false black widow will rush people. It is aggressive and has established quite a reputation for snapping at people who come too close.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Wasp spider is expected to create it's webs on peoples windows for easy access to it's prey.
In the countries which already inhabits these, around 17 live in each family household, and numbers are expected to increase in the UK.
I for one, am not a big fan of spiders, therefore not particularly looking forward to this! :(
