If you make gold on a game and then trade it for something else and you make profit from it, its illegal.

It is illegal to sell a games currency for another games currency. It's against both games rules and regs.

Here's the common situation on WoW.

You pay the items to the other person.

They send you the gold.

Blizzard finds out a large transaction of gold has taken place from different IPs with nothing from the game given in return.

Blizzard checks it out to find what is going on.

If they suspect the gold has been bought illegally they ban the account which sent you the gold, they suspend your account for about a week and delete ALL the gold you bought.

End result: The seller gets his account banned, the buyer gets suspended and his gold gets deleted but he does not get the item/cash he payed back meaning he has made a loss.

Serious end result: If these transactions of gold continue Blizzard can take you to a court of law and try you for breaking terms and agreements you signed when you started the game. Think of it as breaking a contract, highly illegal.
