Why we Feel Sympathy for Cassie

“No day in all my life had ever been as cruel as this one.” I feel really sorry for Cassie here because she hadn’t really come ‘face-to face’ with racism before. She’d seen it happening but she just thought it was people disliking each other. Cassie was really upset because she got called a ‘******’ by the grocer and then she bumped into Lillian-Jean.
Cassie was getting really annoyed in the grocers store because she was made to wait she thought at first it was because all the others were adults but when the grocer served a little white girl who was younger than Cassie before her she got really annoyed and yelled at the grocer. Then he said, “Who’s little ****** is this?” which really annoyed her.
On the way back Cassie was walking with her head looking at the floor because she was annoyed about what had happened and she bumped into Lillian-Jean which is Jeremy’s older sister I thought she would be nice about it because Jeremy is nice to Cassie Stacy T.J little man etc. but she was really mean worse than the grocer
