Family Issues

I have noticed a few threads on family problems. Eg Mom & dad always fighting ect.

I have experence with this, my parents got a divorce in 2000 after my mum found my dad in their bed with another woman, she went crazy that night.
She told me and my brothers to call my aunt to come get us, and we all went down stairs. Then I saw the other woman in the foyer, her face was bright red, because my mum had slapped her. Then I heard my mum yelling GET OUT BOTH OF YOU, I NEVER EVER WANT TO SEE YOU AROUND THIS HOUSE AGAIN! Then I heard my aunt outside, my mum opened the door and told us to get our stuff and that we were going to my aunts for the night. I packed some clothes and I went down stairs where my brothers were waiting. My mom and aunt were on the step and my dad was by the other womans car, and I heard her say to my aunt, "give me your keys" so she handed her her keys, and my mum walked over to my dads BRAND NEW black Chevrolet Suburban and she took the keys and went crazy. My dad said nothing, got in the car and left. So did we, we got in my aunts car and left. My mum filed for divorce the following monday.

My parents were quite happy, they had there ups and downs like most married couples do, I never thought my parents would get divorced. When they did I was sad, my mum was sad, my dad was sad. I knew it was for the best. Some things to remember are:

- Sometime its better for the family, especially if theres kids involved. It just ends up herting them.

- Just because your mother and father don't love each other anymore, dosen't mean that they dont love you.

- You aren't alone. The national divorce rate is at 50% of all marriages end in divorce. That means that for every 10 weddings, 5 will end in divorce. So don't feel alone, maybe one of your friends have gone through the same things as you, it helps to talk to somebody.

- Don't make life difficult for the people around you, it just makes the whole thing harder, for you and the people around you.

- Don't hate your parents for divorcing, it was for a good reason. People make mistakes, take my father for an example, he cheated, he made a mistake and unfortunatly it cost him his marriage. I still love him the same even though hes not with my mum.

- Treat both parents equally, don't pick a favorite one. Just because your mother or father buys some new clothes, don't favor them. Clothes are MATERIAL iems, love is something that comes from the heart and they both love you equally and they allways will.

- I don't mean to burst anyones bubble but most people who get divorced, dont get back togeather. Its often best that way. There is a very slim chance that your mother and father will find each other again, but thats mostly in movies. Don't wish your life away thinking mommy and daddy will get back togeather and life will be perfect. It most of the time it just won't work.

- Also, the biggest one of all. ITS NOT YOUR FAULT! Don't think that for a minute, just because you spilt the milk, your parents aren't going to get divorced. Their problems are much deeper than that.

The BEST person to talk to about problems at home would be your teacher and they can refer you to somebody in your school that can help you. Also I know in the US theres a free confidential phone line you can call and they can give advice or if you just need somebody to talk to. I'm not sure about in the UK, there must be some sort of kids help line.

I think something that helps me is I know that my parents aren't going to get back togeather again. My mother made that very clear to me. Some people are fixated on the fact that there parents will fix all there problems and mommy and daddy will get back togeather and life will be perfect. Its not like the Parent Trap, it just dosnen't work that way. But the real dissapointment comes when it dosen't happen and your fairy land comes crashing down.
