Here's the scientific explanation of what a planet is:
(a) in orbit around a star or stellar remnants
(b) has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape
(c) is not massive enough to initiate thermonuclear fusion of deuterium in its core
(d) has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit.
