You definitely should not fight back, as it only will make the matter worse and then you will get into trouble as well. And running away from it isn't the answer either as you need to face up to your problems.
there's a good chance this might have blown over anyway, but if not just face up to it. Don't argue back and don't get involved with it. Try and walk away and if they are shouting stuff, just say it that it's nothing to do with them and if Amy is so upset she should come to you and deal with it herself and sort it out face to face.
You could even try and seek Amy out yourself, and just say to her your sorry about the frog comment but you were really annoyed about how she came into your face and was starting with your friends. At the end of the day, although she said some stuff about your friend - you calling her names back was never going to achieve anything, and as you have seen it has only added fire to the fuel.
Use this as a learning experience, and make sure you now realise that 2 wrongs simply don't make a right. If a similar situation where to occur you would do better standing up for your mates in a more calm and relaxed way, and just tell the person they have no right to say anything. If they have anymore issues then I'd suggest telling a teacher.
