Edit: No, it's not bugged. There's just a special way of killing them, which doesn't include grouping up.

Yah, grouping up wouldn't be the best option:
Holy damage 495-605, hits aggro target and continues to chain until no one is within the 5 yards distance of the last target (no loop). Every chaining will double the damage.
That's worse than Gruul's shatter and it's pre TBC.
