A duel narrative, which consistantly changes between two characters, about an unpopular boy in love with a popular girl. He doesn't feel strong enough to tell her so goes to drastic lengths to keep her single (a bit of a weirdo basically!)...
Chapter 1 – Mysterious Stalker
The noise on the school bus was disturbing. Screams of horror filled my ears as I stepped onto the bus. The screams subsided as soon as I turned to look at them. Their silent giggles made me want to punch them all. “IT’S UGLY!” they all chanted together. They weren’t screaming at something horrific: They were screaming at me.
Heading towards a seat, trying to ignore the chants and the pitiful look that the driver gave me, I forced myself to look away until I had safely sat down. The giggles continued. They had done something. I could feel it. All eyes were on me and their laughing was increasing in volume as time went on. Was it chewing gum in my hair like last time?
I made to sit up and just move to a different seat. I couldn’t. Instead of in my hair, they had used a lot of fresh chewing gum and stuck it on my seat. I struggled against it and eventually, I was free from the chewing gum but the torment about it was increasing. I’d been bullied ever since I came to college. How could this day be any different?
“Leave the poor guy alone,” someone said, coming along to sit next to me and patting me on the back. The laughter reached its peak. They were laughing at him because he sat next to me. I was a no-body here. I always had been. There was no reason for it. They just saw me as the weakest and went for me.
The boy started talking to me for the rest of the journey. He didn’t say his name or anything. I actually felt like I had a true friend… finally… The giggles had continued but I just chose to ignore them. Eventually, it was time to get off. The boy smiled and walked down the bus. Walking down the aisle, I was getting kicked by the bully behind me. “Cut it out,” I pleaded. He just carried on laughing and continued to kick me out of the door.
Everyone I walked past kicked me. Why were they all kicking me? The giggles were bad enough but kicking was just starting to cause my leg to throb. I waited, as I did every morning, by the lamppost near our school. It was when she would come, with her beauty and elegance following right beside her.
A red sports car pulled up and she jumped out of the open-roofed car without going through the door. Despite this manly action, she still managed to look perfect in every way. Her hair waved in the light wind, her eyes sparkled like the non-existing sun (clouds had covered the sun up) and her figure made my heart pound against my ribs.
She walked right past me, like she always does, without even looking at me. If she did look at me, it was a dirty look but as the saying goes ‘Love starts with hate’ or something along those lines anyway. One time she asked me to carry her books with her. She walked two feet in front of me at all times but she did struggle out a small “Thank you” as she walked into her class.
“So, Samantha, you’re looking pretty as usual,” a familiar voice said. Oh drat, the hunky popular lad. How was I going to win her heart if she was being followed by the fit lads with six-packs and toned skin? “Hey, handsome,” she replied, linking her arm in his and walking into the warmth of the college.
I had first met Samantha Haley when she first got out of her sports car. She had got out of the door that time but she preferred jumping over the top. It looked cooler but to be honest, anything she does is cool to me. Samantha was in some of my lessons but the only times I saw her were break, lunch and waiting for her to come to school.
The bell rang as I daydreamed about my true love. I ran into the classroom and sat down. “Nice of you to join us,” the teacher said, a stern look on her face. Even the teachers were against me. Mrs Blake, my form teacher, was a fair teacher but she had been notified by my other teachers that I was too busy ‘staring into space.’ These were times of when I was thinking about my beloved Samantha. I never admitted it to the teacher, though.
As I sat down to my desk, there was a small giggle from Mrs Blake. She looked at me, pitifully (which was as bad as her stern look), and told me to take the sign off my back. The third time this week and I hadn’t realised. I took the ‘KICK ME’ sign off my back. The class was laughing. I felt my cheeks going red. It was obviously the boy, who had talked to me, and patted me on the back.
If I ever saw him again, I’d… I’d… oh, I wouldn’t have the courage to do nothing. The bullies always won against me. I’d tried standing up against them once but the whole school against one person was hard to face. Why did everything happen to me? I could have dropped out of college but I thought that why would I let them take over my life? The thing is, though, they are. They took it away from me ages ago and I’ve never had the strength to get it back.
There was only one thing in my life that they couldn’t take: Samantha. No matter what, she would always be mine… even if she doesn’t realise it yet. One day, she’ll look into my eyes, the dirty look will disappear and she’ll run into my arms and kiss me. The clouds will part and the sun will beam down on our first kiss. Then we’d get married, have loads of kids and eventually, we’ll retire to Spain where the sun will always shine.
“IT’S RAINING, IT’S POURING…. THE IDIOT AT THE FRONT IS SNORING,” the class chanted, pointing at me and finally distracting me away from my thoughts. The rain pattered down on the window and the class carried on chanting. Mrs Blake looked like she was going to try and stop the havoc but she just shook her head and continued to read her book.
I needed the sun to pop out so that their chants would eventually grow distant. It never came until the door burst open. “I think I’ve been transferred into this form, Miss,” she said. Mrs Blake gave her a stern look then told her to sit in the only available seat left. The chants continued but I was too busy focused on the vacant seat next to me. She sat down and then Mrs Blake gave her a stern look (like the one she gave me when I had barged through the door). “I expect you to be here on time, Samantha Haley!”
Samantha just smiled and turned round to face the boy behind her. “Hey babes,” she said, stroking his arm. I’d seen this before. She did this to get her own way. The boy gulped. He was another nerd but he seemed to have friends. How come I didn’t have any? “Do you want to do me a massive favour?” she asked, giggling. The boy nodded. I didn’t know his name. I didn’t know anyone’s name unless they had constant contact with Samantha. The boy nodded.
“Do you wanna sit here and let me have your seat?” she replied, batting her eyelids. The boy nodded and Samantha quickly moved. The sun had disappeared once more. I couldn’t stare at her if she was behind me. It’d cause too much attention. The chants had returned to full volume, which was drowned out by the bell.
Lessons passed in a blur. It was eventually break-time. Now it was time to find Samantha and just be lost in her beauty. She normally relaxed around the entrance; along with her glamorous friends (they weren’t as beautiful as Samantha, though).
However, I reached the entrance and she wasn’t there. Something was wrong, I could tell.
Suddenly, I heard a scream. “YOU ****!” I heard someone shout. I ran to the source of the noise. Surrounded by a big group of people (who were chanting ‘Fight fight fight’), I couldn’t see the two people in the middle. Barging my way through, I finally found Samantha, scrapping with another girl (who, I think, was called Sarah Fenton).
“You stole my boyfriend, you-” Sarah screamed but I stopped listening. My whole world had tumbled in around me. It looked like they had finally taken everything good from my life. Who, though? “I didn’t take him from you. I would never stoop that low! He came to me and.. I… love him,” Samantha pleaded.
“LIAR!” shouted Sarah. Her face had contorted into a rage. Her brown hair fluttered behind her as she launched at Samantha, fists flying. “BREAK IT UP!” a boy shouted, his voice booming over the screams. Recognising the voice, Sarah stopped.
“YOU ARS-” Sarah screamed, turning her fists onto him. The boy took a few steps back (which I would have done as well in this situation) and pleaded, “I’m sorry, Sarah. I just don’t love you any more. I love Sammy. She’s… she’s…” but he couldn’t think of what to say. “I don’t ever wanna set eyes on you again, Josh Guy!”
Sarah shouted, storming off.
Josh Guy had taken my love and my happiness. How dare he! How could Samantha fall for his charms? He was using her and it was up to me to keep her happy…
