Virgin Media [+rep]

Well, i have a problem. A few weeks back my wireless internet stopped working i go downstairs and my modem (not wireless one) had smoke coming from it. I rung virgin media and they said they would send me out a new router. Well the router was a differnt one its called a Scientific Atlanta 2100, but this one does not work through USB it works through that Ethernet wire thing. I said this will effect my wireless and they said they dont do USB support no more because they had to many problems with it and if i want to use it with usb i have to download the drivers myself. So thats what i did but when i set up my wirless internet now as soon as the ethernet cable from the wireless goes into my computer the whole internet cuts off and it says No gateway reply or somthing. Is there anything i can do?

Please help =]

Run a connection check,
Does it say, Default Gateway?
Unplug internet, Re-arrange wires, you may have one in wrong socket.
Either that or the internet is down in your area.

I'm confused, you downloaded the usb drivers yet you're still plugging in the ethernet cable to your computer?
If you have downloaded that drivers to make the routers usb work then you shouldn't have to plug in the ethernet cable. :)

Sorry ive just read it, it does look confusing. Right my wireless routher does not work through USB its ethernet. So i need to make my modem work through USB. I downloaded all the drivers for the USB and now my modem works with the USB. But when i plug my wireless router in with the ethernet cable then my whole internet shuts down

Plug the ethernet into the Modem.
Then plug the moden into the wireless router.

With this router you need to plug two ethernet cables into it. One from the wireless to the modem and one from the wirless into the computer.

So your missing the one from the Modem to the Computer?

nope i dont need one from the modem to the computer as that is using usb now.

Networking 101:
Just use Ethernet to both. It will save you a ****load of hassle and also supports faster speeds :)
