It was thought up when the state of kansas decided to teach creationism alongside evolution but they didn't specify which god they had to teach about so some guy made it up to prove his point and it's sort of bloomed form there. I ordered the gospel of the fsm yesterday lol

Basically it's for nerds and SUPERCOOL ATHEISTS who want to show just how *+*_HiLaRiOuS*+&+ religion is by making a fake one based on pirates, noodles and other things that 13 year olds find fun

Well, in Australia they have the equivalent of the census and in 2001 (I think. I don't know the exact year) there was a huge nationwide practical joke where many citizens put down "Pastafarian" as their religion - a religion in which worships the flying spaghetti monster.

That's about all I know. I remember it well.
