Losing The Truth
Some days I try, try not to cry
For the day before our friendship died
The last one I can happily think about
The day before I began to doubt
The honesty and trust on your face
Of truthfulness, there was no trace
So that fateful day when I lost you
Will forever linger in my mind, one of the few
That I remember like it was yesterday
I wished that you had stayed away
From the girl who ruined both our lives
Stabbed us in the back with blunt knives
But you wanted her to learn that she
Didn't rule over you or me
And so you went, determined and brave
For our friendships you wanted to save
But when you came back, mind riddled with lies
Inside of me something died
And you think we've both moved on
It's true for you, but what happened was wrong
A piece of me is missing, the part that held you
The only one I believed in, the only one who was true
I see you with her, it brings me close to tears
Though we're friends, it isn't the same as the last two years
You aren't who you used to be
But that isn't what I want to see
I want the peace, the life we used to live
I wanted to keep all the things we used to give
But now it's like I don't exist in your head
You don't hear what I say, I repeat what I said
You used to listen, agree, talk back
Now of friendliness, chatter between us there's a lack
I can't believe how things are now
Compared to what it used to be, we used to allow
No-one but us two to know what we thought
We were there for each other when one was distraught
And because of all this, I found out something I didn't want to
That nothing lasts forever, but why so short with you?
So as I sit here on the brink of night
Trying to get out, trying to find the light
I've tried to find someone new
To cover up the emptiness left by you
But of course, this has been to no avail
Too many times have I failed
So now I retreat, to stop the pain inside of me
To somewhere where my feelings can float free
To this night, I still feel the way
I did before that fateful day
And though I had to let you go
I'll never forget you, that much I know.
