Is there anyway I can request to get a rule changed?
I got warned twice for "bumping" a thread twice because it was older than 2 weeks old but it was basically right at the top of the topics page.
I just feel like getting warned twice for this is a bit OTT because if I can't reply to it then why not close it? If you understand where im coming from.

There wouldn't be enough hours in the day to close all threads over 14 days old. If a thread is felt valuable enough members apply to 'stick it' so that there are really no time limits on those. If you think about it if the person who started the thread hasn't back for 14 days and in your case a couple of months then he thinks it is ' a dead topic' too.Quote:

These rules are pretty much in place for deliberate 'bumpers' who just do it to annoy or get their post count up. In your case it seems accidental but at least you know now. :)
Something else I'd like to add to the excellent responses provided by the moderation department above is that, remembering that the thread you bumped was last posted in at the end of may (we are now in July), the thread you bumped was asking for advice, as Catzsy said the thread starter hadn't replied in a long while so possibly he considered the thread dead too, therefore he probably didn't need advice anymore :)
As Matt said, you didn't recieve an official warning or anything, but we do see your point, it's just not plausible.
Here's a suggestion, to avoid bumping why not set the forum to only display threads that are no more than 14 days old by default, this is a built in setting which you can see at the bottom under display options when viewing a forum. If users wish to have the forum show all threads they can do so in their user CP. Surely this will avoid all accidental bumping? The forum search will still show old threads though, obviously.
But some forums are less active than others, so older threads might be at the top of the list, I don't see how that's bumping them as they're already at the top.
