Go back a decade or so and vampires in the media are evil killing machines, munching on humans and occasionally fighting a vampire hunter or two. Fast forward to now, and they seem to be little more than "girl porn".
Even with the growing media obsession with vampires at the moment, I get the feeling that the days of the *proper* vampire movie's are coming to an end. Sure there are still a few movies on the horizon where the vampires retain a little dignity, still eating people, being generally evil and not sparkling when they go outside. But with the success of things like the new twilight movies (maybe the books to, but i can avoid them more easily), how long is the age of the scary vampire going to last?
Some may point to true blood and in comparison to the twilight films, these vampires still have fangs (and avoided the abstinence only education the twilight vamps seem to have had), they still play the role of "sexy" vampire over the role of scary ones.
on a final note, aimed to twilight - why does a 100 and something year old vampire attend a high school ... pedo much?
As i've said above, i do feel the good ol evil vamp movie is under threat? anyone agree? or worse still, think they girl-porn/sexy style vampire is better?

Umm... considering vampires have characteristics behind them (like sucking blood).. I think that is a key characteristic in a vampire movie.. :rolleyes:.
So a vampire has to be sexy? I see where Mentor is coming from now.. :P they are really losing their credentials.

You raise good points though, I've never watched anything Twilight related, and I won't be any time soon either. Looking at that picture you can really see how vampires have come along way from what they used to be. In my mind, THIS will always be a vampire:
