Best way to gain mussle?

I go to my school gym, which is pretty high end.
Could you give me some tips on gaining muscle and maintaining it.

Sorts of diets?
Methods of gaining muscle on the chest and arms. (triceps and biceps etc.)

I'd say have alot of protein like egg,meat,chicken,oats and stuff and buy dumbbells for a start. Draw out a program for yourself with the dumbbells and continously carry it out, or its useless.

If you're doing your upper body make sure it really is upper body not just pecs, triceps and biceps. So that means the 3 aforementioned muscles, deltoids(shoulders)lats, back, abs.
