On my forum its an IPB V 1.2 and my mate was having troble uploaded an av and it said:
Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.

The error returned was:

You are not allowed to upload that type of file as an avatar or personal photo

what should i do ?

well read it "You are not allowed to upload that type of file as an avatar or personal photo "

so ether your friend should upload his aviatr in a differnt format or your should enable uploads of wich ever format you mean "/
