Feel like I'm sort of stuck in a rut

It's taken me a lot to actually attempt to write this because I really don't like telling people how I feel so, here we go.

I didn't do the best in my exams points wise, my grades were OK. It's mostly focused on points if you want to get into uni/college here and I didn't do well enough to do Psychology. I've wanted to study Psychology since I was about 11-12. I'm not sure what attracts me to it, but it's probably how ****** up my family are :P Also, I wanted to get one of my exams rechecked, because I believe that I deserved a better grade than I did (mainly because I got a much higher grade in the pre's where they mark you harder and I'd worked so much more after that exam) but, the deadline to get your exam rechecked was the 5th of September, which I didn't realise. So, because of my laziness I can't change my grade, that's just a little more stress on my part. I was offered a place on a 1 year course, which I had gotten, but because of money troubles at the time I had to say no to taking part in that course. All my friends have gone off to uni/college and looking at facebook is a constant reminder of the majority people I know having a great time in college. Obviously, they all deserve to be where they are, but I can't help wish that was me. I never planned on seriously taking a year off. Of course, I am going to apply abroad this year, but I don't know if there's a point. I don't know if the grades I have are good enough and I'm not sure if I'm allowed move away this time round.

At the moment, I no longer live in a place of my own. I'm living in my sisters, which I am very thankful for, but I just miss my freedom. I'm currently attempting to buy a house with little money and I'm just getting nowhere at the moment. I've bid on two houses and both have been from the same auctioneer who I really don't trust, due to when bidding, they don't tell the owner for a number of weeks, even if you bid the amount they want. Also, the bidding goes up to an enormous amount, then suddenly the people bidding drop out completely.

There's also the tiny things getting me down, which I know isn't much and I should probably get over it but I'm too soft like, my cat passing away and then one of our rabbit hutches being broken into and having to see four of our rabbits killed all along the ground. I do feel pathetic for this because so many people are a lot worse off than me.

Everyday I wake up, I attempt to make myself fall back asleep because I know I have nothing to get up for. I do nothing all day, just wait around. I was told to volunteer, but I don't feel like that will help me as I'm still going nowhere in life. I know my problems aren't the worst and I don't mean to self pity myself, like I know all this. I just can't help but feel like rubbish about it all.

you can always go back to study. i left school when i was 16 and had no idea what to do or where i was going and literally just took anything to get me out of school, gives you experience and qualifications at best but i know that might not be easy for you to just take anything as where i live you're practically paid to go into education. now i've found out what i want to do (which you're already half way to doing as you know what you want) i've worked my way up and got into uni so it's worth trying, even if you're starting at the very beginning.

yes the exam rechecking was your fault but isn't it worth a try to ask for a recheck anyway and give your reason why? it is always, always better than not trying.

lol everyone on facebook makes their life seem better than it actually is, i wouldn't worry about that. there is a point in applying for studying abroad because there is always that chance you get it. you just have to put in the effort if you do. can you see a careers advisor or something at a college or uni? see if they'll help you apply to different places.

you're lucky in some aspects though, the fact you know how the whole buying a house process is (something i know absolutely nothing about) so you'll be more knowledgeable in that area than other people your age, so at least you get that dealt with. like you say, you're lucky to have a roof under your head which you should remember everyday. does your sister want you out? cause if not then don't worry too much about getting a new house right now, little steps at a time.

feeling sad over an animal dying isn't something small especially if it's one animal after another so you don't have to downplay your feelings because they're very real and not something you just pass over. even if people are going through worse, it all depends how you're feeling and dealing with stuff and obviously it's a lot of problems going on at the same time so everything will get on top of you.

right what i really wanted to point out was volunteering is an AMAZING opportunity to take. even if it doesn't get you a job in the end, you will still achieve skills and you never know what opportunities you will get. my friend left school at 16 with little qualifications, went down the drink,drug and homelessness path. once she decided to sort out her life she took up volunteering and after 6 months someone saw her dedication to working and offered her a job which she's now been at for over 2 years now and she has her own house. it always work out in the end but i'd seriously recommend volunteering, it's better than nothing and there could be a job or other opportunities at the end of it.

i'm not any help cause i don't know anything about houses or your education system but hope it gets better for you!! im sure it will x

Life has a habit of taking your well laid plans, ripping them up and using them as confetti for the people who are much happier than you just to rub it in your face even more. Things will get better even if it does feel like there's no way out of the tunnel atm.

the points system in ireland is ridiculous, and points for psychology are SO HIGH
realistically you're not going to be able to study it here, would you consider doing an arts degree or social care?
you could do a FETAC course but none of them will get you into psychology.

the only other advice i can give you is apply to study in the uk, you'll at least have a decent chance that way OR work until you're 23 and can apply as a mature student

i'm pretty sure they won't do rechecks this time as teachers would be the ones to recheck but are all in school now, but i think i'll try and do it next year if it's possible, just for the sake of it.

i'm not too sure if i can talk to a careers advisor, i'm sure if i went back to my school there'd be something!!

i think sometimes it just tends to all build up!!! i think i will deffo go and volunteer though, it always helps to have something on your cv. thanks a lot for your reply, you've helped a lot with making me feel better :P

i had to pick something with high points, couldn't have just gone with something like social studies :P i don't think i'd enjoy doing a degree which i will never use, simply because i'm quite the stubborn person. i was going to do a fetac course, but backed out because i only had one day to decide and got frightened, oh me. i think it seems like my only option is studying abroad.

I actually forgot to mention that I failed one of my six subjects (even though I worked hardest for that subject for the past two years :() I'm not sure if any Uni will accept that. I dunno how I could forget something so major.

was it maths or English? if not just don't include it

Trust me Kelly I know how you feel. I was in a similar situation in the past and because my grades were SHOCKING not just 'ok' shocking I felt how you do now. I just didn't bother going into school and done terrible in my exams. Anything that related to education put me in a downer, even just people chatting about it on habboxforum. Its easier said than done but you shouldn't be sad for something you don't have, be happy for something you will have. Enjoy your time off and apply for college next year. If some like myself can attempt to do something with my terrible grades you'll do fantastically well. Would you not consider taking on a late PLC or something? I know some places are still taking people on, even if it isn't something career wise you could do a course for a year in something that may benefit you, give you a bit of a headstart in your new course or even just something that you'd enjoy that you could stick on your cv at the end, it'd also take your mind off things.

sorry, but i skimmed over the post slightly. from what i made of it, i think things will pan out, like how they usually do (or so i like to believe that). a suggestion i may have is to try and deactivate your facebook and see if it helps. recently, i deactivated my facebook seeing as ive spent so much time on it pointlessly and i sort of feel a bit more free (sounds crazy, but yeah). sometimes you just need some fresh air, see if that works. i hope things make their way around and you figure everything out, just hang in there for the time being
