This is a rumour made by someone who doesn't know what Google+ is. I use it every day just to see what people are discussing and when this "news" broke loads of people didn't know where it was coming from. It's incredibly similar to the news that reddit was suffering problems with over-moderation and being controlled externally by the NSA or some rubbish when a quick read of these articles makes it clear they're by people who do not really use the service or know what it is. r/technology had filters put on to stop Tesla articles being posted because Tesla isn't technology, it's a car firm that makes electric vehicles and people were karma harvesting.
There's no hint Google+ is closing when loads of people have migrated to it from Facebook and the two have different specialist areas.
