You are right that Mark Zuckerberg didn't do GCSEs, but he is American and they don't have GCSEs, so what is your point? Mark Zuckerberg went to one of the most academic and elite high schools in the US and then Harvard (a university not know for admitting people who can't pass tests), so why are you suggesting he is not academic? I have news for you, he is, to the core.
In the real world, if you mess up your GCSEs you will not get into a good university and you will not get a good job. There will always be special cases, certain people who do well despite their bad grades - but that is a rare event. Perhaps if you tried harder in school you wouldn't have to make these absurd videos to feel better about yourself. Foolish boy.
I hate to agree with Okeanos, but... He's right.
So many times I hear stuff like 'But Alan Sugar had no qualifications and he's rich' - and how many Alan Sugars are there in the world? There's bound to be some people that end up well off from the back of no qualifications (I mean, you could always win the lottery), but that doesn't mean everyone that gets no qualifications will be able to do that.
And in case you didn't realise, when you take your GCSEs, you really aren't tested on everything you've learnt in the last 5 years. Some things you will have learnt are necessary for learning things further along the road (Basic examples: Addition, Spelling), but most of the time, you're only tested on what you were taught in the last 2 years (E.g: History GCSE, you don't get tested on what you did in Year 7 for example).
You DO use them to get into University. To be honest, some courses actually don't care what A-Levels you do, but do care about your GCSEs. (Take Law for example, don't need any specific A-Levels, but do need GCSE Maths, English and maybe Science). From my experience you don't get asked what GCSEs you have because you've put them on your CV already and your employer should have read that.
Oh wow, just got to the point where you mentioned Alan Sugar. That's how predictable this video is, I've heard that so many times.
Also good calling some of your viewers an ********, that'll go down well.
If you research and try hard at something even without qualifications you will succeed to something higher and greater.
^People aren't saying that you need qualifications to succeed everywhere in life, but life will most definitely be a hell of a lot more difficult if you can't obtain the most basic qualifications required for any job. Okay now I'm actually going to watch the video.

Kay I got to the 1:00 minute mark or so and got annoyed, GCSEs do not become 'obsolete' and they are important as is almost every high/secondary school qualification on the planet. You don't just use them for college, as Kardan has quite rightfully said you will need them throughout jobs and university also. Heck you even need some of them to join the Army. They are a good foundation level for any knowledge and aren't completely useless.
I am almost certain an employer would definitely care about whether you have a qualification or not. I'm not just going to casually apply for a job as a teacher without a degree in the subject I plan to teach am I? Voluntary work is an added bonus but the actual qualification itself is an absolute necessity.
And p.s. an A vs an A* can actually mean a hell of a lot to a person who wants to attend an extremely prestigious university.
Did you just tell 15/16 year olds to go out and get pissed what. IT WAS NOT FIVE YEARS OF TOTAL CRAP. Yes i dont like the education system and i do feel the creative side of students is always stunted and pushed away in favour of practical subjects, but to say GCSEs are useless and five years schooling is useless just makes me want to hit you.

er GCSEs are useful for getting into uni given that many unis even specify that they want grades in certain subjects..
Also many jobs also ask for certain GCSE grades too. You recently made a video talking about how you're (and I quote) "sick of doing low skill jobs and getting crap pay"- maybe that's why you haven't needed your GCSEs? The job I recently applied for (and got (A)) asked for Bs in GCSE maths and english - and B is hardly what you'd call a bad grade at GCSE. If I didn't have that at GCSE then I bet my application would have been scrapped before I'd even got to the next stage of the process (the online competency tests) let alone the latter stages which were the interviews.
I'd say more but I'd just be repeating the above, its so cliché to refer to Alan Sugar but as @Kardan; said, how many Alan Sugars do you see walking down the street? He made it because he is an exception to the rule, not as the rule itself.
Also about the A vs A* bit; you've got to be kidding me :P I missed out on an A* in my A level economics and I'm still annoyed with myself about it even though I only needed a B :P For some people as said above getting an A* or not can affect your place at university so I'm pretty sure it matters quite a bit there..
I'm still annoyed that I missed my A* in my Maths GCSE by 0.8%, and that was 6 years ago now.
I was like that with my media exam, I failed them both (A) - the last one by one mark and it just makes you think why can't I have got someone marking who'd give me that one extra! I still passed the course at least :P.Quote:

You make a lot of assumptions in the video, a spelling mistake doesn't indicate you failed English.

- Learning something for 5 years, that's not technically true, in most subjects you will learn it in 2 years. The 5 years help you develop knowledge, and improve your writing style etc. for when you actually go in to the exams and GCSE. My boyfriend moved schools when he was starting year 11, he had to do 2 years worth of all his subjects in one years and in science he had to sit in the corner with a textbook as they didn't do the separate sciences - he passed them all, so where does the 5 years come into that? It doesn't, well not a lot anyway!
- GCSEs test memory not intelligence - where are you getting this from? The last I knew exams like English language and literature require you to actually write something yourself showing your creativity and the ability to express whatever the objective is. Memory there is the writing styles and the ability to analyse, mainly everything else is up to you. I get what you mean when you say just because someone did better than you they may not be smarter than you, like I said it's the ability to put pen to paper more than remembering and everything. However, in some cases they will be smarter than you.
Also, if you fail your GCSEs you can't always do them again can you? I swear most of this you just pull out of thin air and believe it to be correct yourself.
Yes, let's all get pissed - I might be of a minority, but I didn't drink until I was 18 almost 19, and to be honest it doesn't interest me much at all. What's wrong with celebrating good grades with a family meal or having your family say it's ok and everything if your results are less than adequate?
Those 5 years eh? If you've got bad results, maybe it's because you've been getting drunk that they were worse than you imagined - I'm surprised you didn't mention this, I mean you're all up for assumptions aren't you?
You can actually do all your GCSEs again, but if you completely fail all of them, it'll usually require you paying and doing them on an adult course rather than in a school, if you say get a D in GCSE Maths or English, than usually schools with a sixth form will have a sixth form GCSE Maths/English class where you can retake whilst doing A-Levels if needed.Quote:
