What should HM Government negotiate from Brussels and is reform is the EU even possible?
The British Government is preparing to enter negotiations with Brussels over reform of the European Union to secure, quote, a better deal for Britain. A national referendum will be held following the completion of negotiations, and the country can either vote yes to any changes secured (a vote to remain within the EU) or can vote no to any changes which would result in a period of two years additional membership whilst the United Kingdom signed trade agreements with the EU before withdrawing from the organisation itself.
In negotiations, it has been made clear by Brussels officials that Freedom of Movement (aka Open Borders) will not be negotiated, and no treaty changes will be enacted which rules out removing the clause of Ever Closer Union (aka more powers to the EU). Prime Minister David Cameron has so far hinted only at securing benefit changes to EU nationals and streamlining the Single Market as negotiation goals.
But whatever the result of negotiations, what do you want to see reformed about the EU for you to consider remaining in? Is your wish even possible do you think? Or are you fully for British independence from the organisation on the basis that the same trick is being pulled as in the 1975 referendum under Prime Minister Harold Wilson? Or are you fully for more and more powers to be transferred to European Union institutions?
