Thyroid Problems? Unhelpful Doctor?

Hello everyone, I Dont know if anyone on here will have any knowledge or experiences on this, like me but i thought ide ask xD

Basically when i was around 18 i had a blood test which came back fine apart from that i was in the "grey area " for my thyroid. They mentioned that i may need another blood test soon but never asked me for it. Eventually i moved house and signed up for a new doctors, and when i had my first blood test to register my health records, they said my blood results where fine (including the thyroid)

However ive been suffering with lethargy, dizzyness and a load of different symptoms which can be thyroid problems. The only problem is that i recently had a sinus infection , and when i went to the doctors last, he said the dizzyness was because of the sinus infection and should clear soon, After seeing him i have just gradually got more and more symptoms (im not sure if he is aware of the thyroid issues in the past)

Im just wondering if anyone thinks it could be the dizzyness or if you think i may be right in thinking it could be the thyroid problems are back. Im debating going back to the doctors tomorrow (third visit in 3 weeks) and asking for a blood test. But i dont wanna sound too rude for "not trusting" the doctors opinion before?

Sinus infections are closely linked to having an under active thyroid so your thinking is on the right lines. Your doctor will have your past on file but if you're uncertain then it's always best to let them know. Leave it a while (however long the doctor recommended) and if the sinusitis gets worse ask for a better remedy. As a woman it's always important to keep your iron levels up too.

Haha thank you, the doctor recommended 3 weeks and if it doesnt clear up to do some exercises that he printed off for me. Its just hard because the sinus infection has gone now, and the inflammation in my ear (when i had the sinus infection) has gone, so he just put it down to that, whereas i would have thought he would test for the more severe things it could be, to rule them out, and then come to a conclusion (if u get me)

Especially with the history of having the grey area thyroid , iron deficiency anaemia and my mum being a diabetic :S

It does seem odd that your bloods came back normal but problems that came with the sinus infection are still hanging around. I would personally leave it a few more days to fully clear up and if problems are persisting head back to your doctor and ask for some more tests. The NHS is there, might as well use it :)

What's the harm in asking for your thyroid to be checked out? Any good GP should be taking the attitude that it's better to be safe than to be sorry and should want to put your mind at rest.

I had a wrist problem that lasted for months and I kept going to the GP about it, only to be told that he "didn't know what the problem could be therefore there probably isn't a problem" (???????!!!!!!). Finally I decided to see a different GP just to make sure, got sent up to the hospital for an x-ray and found I had a small break in the bone. GPs don't know everything but sometimes they forget that - there is nothing wrong with asking for a second opinion and any good doctor should respect your request to see someone else.

Thats very true :D its just the fact that as i work in a nursery, ive been very regular with doctors appointments due to getting so many ilnesses from where i work lol. All my GP's seem to make it sound like a hypochondriac or something lmao. Im going to go tomorrow and ask for a blood test :D

This seems very familiar to what happened to me @Emmz;

I also had a blood test on which my thyroid was borderline and they asked me to book another appointment. I don't like needles so never bothered but I too have lots of sinus problems and I've had them a long time. I actually get crusting in my nose due to staph bacteria triggering impetigo (so my doctor has told me).

I'm not sure if your sinus problems are similar but I will certainly be mentioning this to my doctor now that you've mentioned it.
