Do People Have a Say in What You Wear?

I was a little curious as I've always dressed for myself, but the guy I'm seeing said about taking me shopping and helping me pick out some stuff.

He has good taste so I'm not too worried, and I kind of thought 'Yeah it'd be nice to have an opinion on some nice outfits' cause I'm normally really fussy and struggle to pick out what looks good on me. But then I thought - hold on a minute can I not dress myself? haha
Plus I own like, next to no clothes because I dropped a load of weight and nothing fits.

Anyway, do you have anyone that has an input in what you wear? Also what's your view of clothes being picked out for someone else (their partner, relative, etc.)?

School tries to - but 70% of the others do so why shouldn't I not conform!


I guess when was younger, Parnts did and I never liked T-Shirts with no Collar but no love them (I was always encouraged to wear um) lol

Ah yeah, schools always try and make a huge fuss because apparently how you dress in school will affect your learning :rolleyes:
Then again, I guess it prepares you for the real world in jobs where you can't just turn up sloppy. My school used to suspend people for not wearing uniform properly so it kind of defeated the object of it being a school lol.

Sometimes a little input at younger ages helps out a lot, though I look back at how my mum used to dress me as a toddler and think 'How could you even let me leave the house like that' - then again, I've thought that looking back on pictures where Ive chosen my own outfits lol.

no because no one tells me what to wear. if my boyfriend said he liked me in something, id make an effort to wear it more but if he tol me not to wear something,i wouldn't listen.

Only work. I'm not talking a uniform dress code but a dress code where you're expected to dress smartly but choose what you wear. For example, in business, women can dress in fancy blouses, short skirts and heels etc and that is 'smart' but that wouldn't be seen as 'appropriate' for work for me. So I do have to wear some fairly boring/sensible clothes. But work aside I've found I'm much more paranoid about what I wear outside the house now because I still dress like I did at say 19 (bright pink Nike's for example!) and if someone from work saw me they would probably have words the next day. That's probably just me being paranoid though.

Nah, i normally pick clothes that I am happy in. If I was wearing something new I might ask for an opinion on it, but I normally go with my own anyway

Yes, me and my sister wont buy anything without one and others approval. I'm pretty crap at buying stuff for myself, however I am pretty good and pointing out clothes that look good on my sister and vice versa.

er not really

i like having my friends input though, my bestmate has similar-ish taste so we'll pick out stuff or give ideas to each other

This is true - yeah it can draw comparisons to what the O.P asked I agree. I knew someone who went to an awards bash and had to wear a dinner suit and he said men have no choice - just a Bowe Tie and drab coloured suit. Gals/women are lucky as so I think.
