Would you be a vocal parent or would you let things slide?

Just been talking with family then and i'm enraged about this even though I heard it a few years ago... my cousin was taught in her primary school what a great man Nelson Mandela was and came home and told her mum all of it. Anyway her mum lived in South Africa growing up and knew the REAL SIDE OF MANDELA WHICH IS NEVER TAUGHT and told her what a bad man he really was and how he killed innocent people and how his wife put tyres around people's necks filled with petrol and set them alight.

Anyway the blood was boiling by this time as well as watching Obama with his fake tears and terrible acting on Sky News in the background and still is just thinking about the absolute lies that are told about him and so many other things but it got me thinking, if your child was being taught stuff in school or something similar that you disagreed with or believed the other side should at least be taught, would you be the kind of parent to march up to the school?

I would. I wouldn't be able to help myself.

I don't care what my child thinks as long as they can think.

I won't expect them to agree with me about everything because they'll be in such a better position for the rest of their life if they can disagree with me and back up their opinions rather than just have me ram my beliefs down their throat for their whole lives. Same with school though, I hope I'll be able to teach them to question what their school is teaching them and decide for themselves whether they agree with it.

That seems to be the real problem with today's education: just teach them to memorise some facts and regurgitate them. Kids aren't taught to think for themselves.

Are you implying your auntie told your cousin at an age appropriate to primary school (like 5-11? idk) about people putting tyres around peoples necks and filling it with petrol and setting them alight?

No, if my children were taught Nelson Mandela was great I wouldn't give a shit because I don't give a shit about how he's viewed, nor do I give a shit about what the schools teach obama to be like as it makes no difference to me. They will grow up and learn that everyone is a liar one day and can do so in their own time.

I'd always encourage them to look up things in more depth before forming a justifiable opinion. If they were old enough, I would basically tell them to not trust teachers 100% since they're just human at the end of the day, but also because I remember being told the UK didn't have conscription.

Forcing my version of events onto them won't do them any more good than others doing it. People can only teach what they know, so like others have said I'd encourage them to learn things for themselves if it's something that interests them and show them how they can do that. Certainly wouldn't go around demanding that other people change for my views and become the militant parent everyone hates

Would tell the child the truth but probably wouldn't go up to the school (unless it was super serious and shocking)
