Giving points for games other than your typical

Okay, so maybe I'm not comprehending this correctly, but I have searched google for the last couple days to find a good tutorial on wired point generating and each one tells me something different.
I've even back in the threads to see if someone had posted something and the only one I found was from 2013.
Is there anyone who has been able to successfully wire a game to give out points? If so, which wired did you use?
I'm using all the "correct" ones but it is still not letting me incorporate it into a game.
