risk

you're staring at the digital clock,
just waiting for the numbers to change.
it's eleven fifty-nine,
and you're about to witness the beginning of a new day.
the tension builds with the impatience,
and you know you will probably blink.
just for a second and the moment's gone,
and in that moment you feel your heart sink.

you have survived another day,
a task, to most, that would go unnoticed.
snug in the cushion of their sanity,
well, you're the one who chose this.

had you listened to your instinct,
this life of yours wouldn't be a threat.
you wouldn't be feeling this heartache right now,
you wouldn't be feeling all of this regret.

the chance is yours, but you're too afraid,
that's how everything seems to be now.
but you know deep down that within time,
you'll come out of the darkness and shine somehow.

and now you must admit to yourself,
the fact that you've chosen to deny all along.
even though you think you're always right,
it doesn't mean everyone else is wrong.
