— Tom Harwood (@tomhfh) January 18, 2022EXC As many as 20 Tory MPs from the 2019 intake are planning to submit letters of no confidence in Boris Johnson tomorrow.

The number could breach the 54 letters required for a confidence vote. One 2019 Tory MP told me it could be the PM’s “D-Day”, adding: “His time has gone.”The trigger appears to have been the @Telegraph’s revelations about the party at 10 Downing St on the eve of the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral last year. One told me the “sickening” party was “the final straw”.

The group considered a joint protest letter to the PM but rejected it.🚨 Senior Conservative backbencher tells me tonight they are confident of getting to 54 letters tomorrow to try and oust the PM.

“Up the revolution!” they tell me.
No 10 / whips subjecting them to “threats and blackmail” but has only angered MPs further, they say.As a Conservative and Unionist Party member I have little sympathy. From the start, I argued that the lockdowns and restrictions were inhumane, wrong and a total overreaction to what was quite a mild virus. The elderly died alone in their beds, children with cancer dying alone without relatives - evil and draconian rules imposed by this government on people for a virus that was no serious threat to the vast majority of people. And the fact that people in Number 10 were partying as these rules were in play just proves that the government purposely frightened the population over this more than they should have been because if the government had access to data suggesting this was a serious disease, they wouldn't be partying - would they? Judge by actions, not propaganda. An MP involved in trying to encourage letters to go in tells us

"I think we’ve done it, difficult to tell though. Lots of shift today. The Whips operation completely backfired. Colleagues now have a sense they aren’t alone”- Worth repeating it’s all very febrile and hard to tell
In addition to all this, the government has been losing its way focusing on global warming as thousands of illegal immigrants flood across from Calais.
On the other hand, the only thing making me want the PM to stay in position is that the replacement could be even worse in terms of restrictions. We know that in the Cabinet over the last couple of years, Gove has been the main one pushing for even harsher measures. He anywhere near power would be a disaster, and to be fair to Johnson he is an electoral winner (or was, until this).
Let's see what unfolds. I'll post any rumours I see.
Thoughts? Should the Tory Party remove Boris Johnson as leader and Prime Minister?
