Tbh, I didn’t think much of the album at first, but then again; I didn’t think much of TTPD either, and that’s somehow climbed its way into my top albums. Clearly, I’m not a reliable judge of my own opinions when it comes to Taylor, especially in the early doors stage. Give me a few months and I’ll probably be declaring it a masterpiece between mouthfuls of cereal at dinner time because that's statistically when I mostly have my cereal - Don't judge me.
That said, I’ve only listened to TLOAS once all the way through because, well, I’ve been a busy boy. The ongoing struggle between adult responsibilities and keeping up with Taylor Swift’s emotional universe is very real. I just wish my girlfriend would write a song about me similar to Wood, though probably will likely be called Bonsai.
From what I’ve caught so far (and from it constantly floating through the background of wherever I happen to be), The Fate of Ophelia has really stuck with me. It’s dramatic, poetic, and just the right level of tragic heroine energy
As for my top four Taylor albums, I’d have to say:
- RED
- TTPD
- Midnights
Honestly though, it’s impossible to pick. There are some individual songs that absolutely deserve to be in my top 3, but alas, they’re orphans of the ranking system. So here’s a little nod to the underdogs so they don’t feel left out of the Grammy speech
- Back to December
- champagne problems
- my tears ricochet
- You’re Not Sorry
- Mean
Basically, my taste in Taylor music is 40% heartbreak, 40% overthinking, and 20% revenge fantasy.. and I stand by it
loooooool no All Too Well???
I haven't listened to every song all the way through yet, but the pieces I've heard are all so catchy and have been stuck in my head for hours after.
I think my top 3 albums are Folklore, Reputation, and Red (Taylor's Version). It's so hard to pick 3!
Where's the "What Your Top 3 TS Albums Say About You" generator
ALSO- I hope you indeed get your own version of Wood by your gf looooooooooool
Oh All Too Well is my top favourite song for TS.
I only named songs which weren't within the top 3 albums I listed though.
I have to say I agree with the latest Bill Maher criticism that she isn't that memorable. She is a huge star I get it, and I know a handful of her songs, but he raised the point that unlike most big stars most people outside of her fanbase can't recall her lyrics/songs. Is that mean?
If mean if given these choices of be being a mega super star singer
I'm gonna pick option 1. I wouldn't care if my lyrics aren't known as much outside of my fanbase, fans are what makes me able to sell out stadiums not random people who happen to know my lyrics from it playing in the background etc.Quote:
Option 1:
- Lots of fans all who know most of my lyrics for all my songs.
Option 2:
- Less fans overall, but my songs are widely known, even by people who aren't fans of mine
Wasn't impressed with this album tbh, I gave it a full run-through and I recall sort of liking Honey but wasn't blown away by any of them, and genuinely couldn't hum you two bars of any of the tracks. It felt rushed and immature with a lot of cringe but not funny ironic cringe, more just "oh, she actually thinks she's still 17 and struggling rather than a 35 year old billionaire, ok". Think it also doesn't help that there's nothing new here, a lot of it is pretty much Reputation/Lover but happier - a cynic might suggest it had been churned out to sell 284 versions of the same album with different covers rather than because she had exciting things to say.
Top 3 albums for her are Speak Now, Red, andddddd possibly Midnights which I initially didn't like that much tbh so who knows, maybe Showgirl will end up my favourite one day
My early take on it is that it is an unnecessary album and/or era from a musical standpoint, but you may think that artists of her caliber might sometimes get into a strategic frivolity of just starting a new era or two as a self image refreshment or a transition period for something bigger for later. I think that she felt as though she needed to rapidly put together something that could encapsulate the perfect timing of her milestones in quasi-real time (almost married, owns her full body of work, just ended the highest-grossing musical tour of all time...), let go of some of the themes documented in TTPD that are not worth exploring anymore, and attempt a consistent aesthetic out of it.
AS A MAX MARTIN + SHELLBACK ALBUM, it's a bit of a downer that there is nothing in there that is nearly as addictive or memorable as the stuff in 1989 or reputation... I know that, if you try to guess what an album will sound like based solely on their (many) cover arts, you're mostly inclined to end up being disappointed. But Taylor's own pre-release description of the album as "infectious", and the whole chaotic-evil vibe of its (many) teased album covers, kind of make you assume you'd get something as wacky and earwormy as Like a G6's chorus, maybe? Maybe, in thinking so, I was reaching for the stars too much XD
I assume she basically wants to save her true artistic powers for the future :star:TS13:star: project... if she and her crew are not secretly mixing it already.
EDIT: Top 3 albums: reputation, 1989 and Midnights =)
