Habbo lose 100s? More like thousands..
cracking spot! +rep
Also, how is this going to effect the US sponsors? They have more promotions there than anyone else and surely a lot of these won't apply to users from 3 different continents and visa versa. It's going to be an odd place and they might have to limit themselves to transnational sponsors only which isn't a great way to do business.
Yeah, some girl was trying to make her name on the US so she won't have to change her name and she was saying it won't let her. Nice spot Charl, +rep. :) Dunno if it's been posted but, most info is here.
Nice idea.
Has habbo said anything else about this or are they leaving everybody with questions?
@Dander, thats what I was going to say but he's on about sponsors, for the info bus and stuff. That would be pretty awkward I'd imagine 'cos they'd have to code each location in, then check their IP in client...
Possibly but if they did public rooms, news articles and catalogue sections only aimed at certain countries I think it could be efficiently done.
Habbo already have global adverts in place to an extent you visit .com from the UK and it will ask if you wanna play your local habbo and give you a link to the UK hotel and the same when you visit .com from australia it will ask if you wanna play locally and give you a link to .AU, As for the names the most recent active one isnt going to work people who get banned for 30 days before the merger are going to lose there username to someone on another hotel who isnt banned and logged in say 12 days ago whilst the other person has been banned for 13 days which isnt very fair.
The flags next to the name would be the best option then as they've done already dont allow same names as other people on hotels then eventually as players leave/ get banned the names with flags next to them will slowly disappear and die out.
This is from the FAQs http://www.habbo.co.uk/help/102

Will I have a 'UK'/'AU'/''US' etc placed after my name? I don't want it as it defeats the purpose of me choosing a unique name that I want.
No, we're not permanently labeling people based on where they're from, exactly due to the reason you're stating in the question.
Not quite.
What they're doing, from my understanding, is this:
My username on habbo.co.uk is InWonder. If someone on the other hotels has the name 'InWonder', then the most active player keeps the username.
The other users will be forced to change their username.
I think this whole merger thing stinks a bit, but I'm assuming they did it to increase their profit margin. I'm still in awe that they haven't even merged .ca and .com yet, and they're already planning for another merge. Oh well.
