Yeah. I told my mum about it, and she had seen me in the past doing this essay, and she said "I saw you working hard on it, and you aren't doing it again. If she lost it, it's her fault."
Good. Your teacher has a responsibilty to look after your work and get it back to you on time etc. just like you do and to get it in on time, so if she can't keep her side of the bargain, and actually do her job, then you should in no way need to do the work again.
Explain to her you've spoke to your mum about it and she understand's how hard you did work on it so you have both came to the conclusion that your refusing to do it all over again after the amount of time and dedication you put into it, and it's not your responsibility anymore.
However, if it's for examination or GSCE purposes, then you will most likely have to re-do it all, as I had a similair experience in computing when their server crashed and I lost a years worth of work and they made me do it all again.
I had a teacher like that, but she was way worst. She lost most of my classmates' science files and she wouldn't even admit it.
Ive had it happen twice to me now, but it will never happen again.
It happened last year at the start of year 10, we moved schools, and i'd been at the old school working for 3-4 months on the start of my GNVQ ICT course. Got to the new school and it was " Oops, we couldn't find it anywhere on the old server, and now the old server is gone ". I had no choice but to redo it.
And the lastest one was the same like you, just before the six weeks, my maths teacher lost one of my Number Grid/puzzles coursework, which took 3 weeks for me to do ( 16 lessons at a hour each. Over half a days work ). And ive got to redo that now.
But now i refuse to handwrite it, and i take my laptop to school type it all up, save it to my laptop and my 1GB memory stick.
I'd appeal her descion to your head teacher for the subject.
If not they say redo it there should be a board of studies you can contact.
I'd scanning copies of major assessments and saving them. If I type work at school I email it home so I have a back up.
What ever you do keep calm, if you handle the situation properly you might get compensated a grade or 2.
Good luck =)
This would make me very angry indeed. I work very hard on my college coursework and if they ever lost anything I would probably kill them lol. Never happened to me thank god but if it does I probably wouldnt do it again cos it will be their fault not mine. I also have a back up on my memory stick so if my work DOES get lost all I have to do is recover it from tht. All the work I do at college now is on computers so nothing paper based can get lost either :). Good luck in appealing ;)
That's why i always type it up.
