Well I agree with you, yeah. But it's their forum to manage, they're inforcing the rules that's been around for a while, it just seems more drastic right now because all the other reputation editors never inforced the rule..
I guess I'm quite lucky because on hysteria I don't really get any -rep, and if I do I don't bother reporting it, because I don't see the point really.

I've been looking into that sort of reputation in a lot more detail recently, there are a certain few users who are 'repeat offenders' and unfortunately there's nothing I can do about it except remove it.
I PM'ed MAD about this a while ago and didn't receive a response but I firmly believe that issuing pointless rep repeatedly should justify a caution perhaps after a formal warning PM. There would be at least 5 maybe 6 high rep power users who would currently be cautioned if this was the case. If pointless repping continues after this caution further action will need to be taken in the form of a short ban and if the situation does not improve a permanent ban may need to be issued in the worst case scenario.
Unfortunately, because I didn't receive a response the only action I can take is to infract and that doesnt solve much in terms of preventing users from issuing pointless reputation.

The long and the short of this is that there needs to be a significant punishment for issuing pointless reputation that deters users enough so that they stop doing it and make my job slightly easier. ;)

Isn't banning someone over pointlessly +repping someone a little .. drastic?
I think people are losing the prospect of repuation really, why does everyone take it so seriously? O_o
