So, excactly what do you need to get into Cambridge?
Straight A's in academic subjects.
How many and do your GCSEs matter or just A and AS levels?
gcse's matter for subjects taht you do not take at A level. so i fyou didnt take english maths or a science, they would look at your gcse grade. luckily, i got straight As in them lol.
If you don't take any subjects at gcse that you don't take at A level (if that makes sense) then will they only look at your A level grades?
No they look at both. They get thousand of candidates from all over the world, plenty of whom come from noble/royal families and are willing to pay multiple times the entrance fee, who've done like 13 GCSEs and got all A*s. When they look at your A levels they look at each individual module you've done and expect you to get high As.
Yes, but say for example sheffield university, which is in top 12 i believe and in The Russel Group - i'm assuming you know what that is, and you come out with a 1st class 1:1, in a simliar degree to someone who did it at cambridge, they're not going to give someone the job because they went to a better university (assume the two people got same grades at gcse/a level) they're going to look at personality surely, because what you have to take into account is the price of going to cambridge and oxford compared to another highly regarded university such as sheffield (NOT sheffield hallam, the national sheffield - 8th or something in leauge table) which is twice as cheap.
im nowhere near good enough to get into oxbridge, but i'd say i'm still happy with my grades (a*s/as/few **) and even if i was good enough to get in, i don't think i'd want to waste some of my parents money if they offered to help pay off the government loan, i'd rather go to somewhere like sheffield which is twice as cheap, but you still get the same opportunities as its still as high regarded being in russel group.
a girl i know is going to oxbridge next year, and all she does is study 24/7 and does nothing else, i'd rather be a more rounded person with a personality and socialise than sit inside studying trying to get straight a's when you can get in a highly regarded university and still be able to go out... i'm not saying all oxbridge students are like this
Well I agree, politicians go to these universities and they're all dull as anything and can't comprehend consequences or anything to do with reality in general because they do subjects irrelevant to real life. But at the end of the day someone who says they've been to Oxbridge is going to look all the better for it and not just in England.
What other ones are in the russel group?
