Projectors (Decent ones) hit up to £1000 to £2000
You won't get a decent projector capable of high resolutions (let alone HD resolutions) for £600, and the bulbs can cost upwards of £200, which need replacing every few months, just buy a HDTV.
Hmmm, not entirely true. Lamps don't need changing as soon as that, I use one for work and it's used quite often and it's never needed its bulb changed since I've been there for the 3 years. Maybe on cheap projectors, but the projector I use wasn't that expensive at the time.
To avoid the bulb going, you shouldn't turn the projector on and off within 30 mins, so it can warm up. Why do you need a projector anyway? TVs are better than a projector, the only good thing about having a projector for gaming, browsing and general TV is for novelty value :P
In HD, and projectors used as televisions (they are used loads) then the bulbs will go very quickly, wether the projector is cheap or expensive.
As I said... HD projectors ;)
You also said projectors used as TVs :P I can see why HD projector bulbs burn out, it must take alot of power to show the detail you get with anything in HD.
