Sounds percular, since all the other companys are selling them for such a price, mabye it was just a nub hosting company 'claiming' they sold fm domains

I don't think that would be a legit site (or you've remembered it wrong) as they've been around £50 for a few years now (no site would offer them cheaper than £50 or they'd loose money).
