The VIP Situation

I like these ideas ryan :)

but jesus got 20k by constantly posting in the forum games which I think has lost post counts (well it seems to have to me)... so really it ain't easy xD

Thats the idea though. Its called motivation, nobodys gonna post loads if they dont have something to get at the end of it. More members will stick around to see if they can get the rep feature, making the forum more active and making people post more. Plus they wont want to get banned before they do, would they?

Corr you guys are rubbish at this stuff lol.

Gareth, there are others ways to get posts fast but even then, the idea isn't to spam the forum to death. :P

But yeah, getting to 20,000 posts IS impossible. Jesus just used hax.

As a first impression it seems like a pretty sound idea, obviously if it were to be implemented the specifics would probably be tinkered with so I won't comment on those atm. The only major issue I could see is the VIP's might consider it unfair that they paid and now other people are getting them for free. Maybe if we keep name changes exclusive to VIPs and/or find something extra for them it would balance it out?

Tbh I think the best thing to do would be to set up a poll to ask them if they'd mind some features being spread out amongst the ranks because ultimately it's them who'd feel cheated. If they voted no then I'd be against doing it because imo it isn't right to cheat people who paid money like that :) Ideas?

Oh, and for the people who say its impossible to get 20k posts anyway, that's a whole other discussion :P

Well I'd love the rep feature to be included in the Emerald feature. It'd be an awesome idea, but I don't think nvrspk4 would agree to that as it completely wrecks the VIP competitions, nobody will take part in something if theyve already got the feature they wanted.

Alex, VIPs are getting unlimited namechanges whereas normal users are getting just 3. You have to think in a business sense here, giving new features to the Donators would make people donate. Why give new features to VIPs? Its like watering a flower which is going to die out no matter what. The service that they would recieve would eventually transfer to either members or the Donators.

VIPs are getting all the features without having to post 20,000 times for the power to see rep, or post 10,000 times to close their own threads, plus they're the last of a dying breed.

The VIP concept is going to be far from dead, just from MOTM alone there'll be 6 new VIPs alone (oh, and I forgot to correct you, you can win MOTM as many times as it's felt you deserve to) and with comps there'll probably be a fair few more. But I feel that's all besides the point.

The reason I raise the issue is not because of business or anything like that, its purely a moral stance: if you promise something to someone, you should give it to them. We promise to make people who paid us a "Very Important Person" by giving them features normal members don't have, and in the past if we've given those features to the rest of the members we've done our best to give new features. Similarly, since VIP+ people have paid us more, we promise to make them above VIPs. It simply wouldn't be right to allow them to pay us just to change the promise as soon as the ability to pay us is taken away without asking them first; its their perogative.

Maybe I'm in a minority, idk, but I feel the final say should go to the people who gave us their money in good faith.
