I didn't get a letter :s Wait afew weeks for it :P I reset my router multiple times, thinking that was the problem. But it isnt for once.

Mine has been pretty sluggish and slow, but it hasn't been down.
Got another letter from virgin confirming that the date will be the 19th so the problems you are having now have no known reason. Maybe virgin are aware of the problem and that is what they will be trying to fix when they start maintanence.
