Don't get the original iPhone (or "2G" as a lot of people seem to think it's called :rolleyes:). The minor differences on the 3G make all the difference.
Another overlooked difference is that the 3G's headphone jack is flush into the top (the original iPhone's jack was sort of at the bottom of a small hole at the top, lol - see pic).

I dont like the iphone 2g, because theres no such thing.
The iphone 3g will be better when they release BlueSn0w (bluetooth 'Super hack')
Unless you are desperate, I would wait a couple of months to see what the next revision has to offer: this next iPhone will be a greater step up from the iPhone 3G than the 3G was from the first iPhone model. *shrug*
